If my vote counts, I dislike the idea of white or black bars. If possible, I think it would look much better to simply rework the logo to fit the space. It can still be recognizably the same without being identical.

Love your enemies!

Can you create a scaled image with transparent background so the aspect ratio remains the same?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Getting The "evcforum" Username at Facebook
When I try to set our "username" at Facebook to "evcforum", which would allow people to reach the our Facebook page with the link Update Your Browser | Facebook, I'm told the name is not available. The Facebook help page has a section on it, but it's basically just a long winded way of saying, "Too bad for you."
Is there anything I can do? I vaguely remember making an abortive attempt at setting up a Facebook page for EvC Forum around a year ago, and maybe it owns the evcforum username, but I can't find that page anywhere. Maybe I never clicked on some authorization link that was email'd to me.

I've exhausted my graphical abilities. The logo was created by TrueCreation, I have no talents in that area myself.

Re: Aliases
So, I talk about stuff here that I never talk to my real life friends about. And I'd bet that some of them would be appalled by the things I've written here - its not that I actually believe them, but I did write them.
On the other side, I don't want someone who hates me on here looking me up on Facebook and finding me in real life.
Thirdly, there's the creep factor... like:
"Hey Matt, I didn't know you played percussion. And your girlfriend it pretty cute, but that green shirt is hideous. When did you go to San Fran? And is that your baby?"

Yes, that would work, but my graphical gifts only go as far as Windows Paint, which no longer has transparency capability. There used to be something in older versions under image options that would allow you to choose a transparency color.
Anyway, what's in there now isn't too bad. If anyone wants to take a stab at improvements go right ahead. I'll put it up and we'll see how it looks.

Definitely an understandable point and this is why I would suggest for you creating an alias on Facebook. Ask around on GMOLOL and someone there should be able to tell you how they manage to not get their alias account suspended.
Personally, I've decided that if people want to dislike me because of my opinions, which have generally been based on research and logical thought, then f*** 'em. My biggest concern with anonymity when I first started debating here was my parents finding out that I was atheist before I chose to tell them. This is no longer a problem as I have "come out of the no god closet" now and they have accepted it. This lack of the need of anonymity pushed me into further debating and challenging my ideas on other topics as well and I just don't stress about people hating me because of what I think. (I debate people in person often too, so it is slightly expected of me to be confrontational).

This I can understand as well, we have all pissed someone off on this board at one time or another. However, from most of my experiences on this board, I do not see a lot of hate thrown around even though we quite often disagree. We all respected Buzsaw, even though we did not agree with a thing he said, because he was passionate and enjoyed the debate. If you are willing to keep debating, even though you face immense odds (looking at you Faith), then I have enormous respect for your willingness to defend your ideas. It doesn't mean I agree with you, but I respect you for your moxy. Lol. Glad I could use the word moxy.
Now, does this mean your scenario isn't possible? No, it does not, I'm just not going to live my life in fear of it. If someone decides an internet debate is reason to murder me, then so be it.....Plus, law enforcement will have a nice online record of the recent comments to find them pretty easily, so I can rest assured that they will be punished. I have no children or significant other to protect from the loonies, they would have to come at me. I'm also not ashamed to report bodily threats and will gladly take a snapshot to save for posterity should someone attempt something. I can minimize the risk, but it is inherent without using an Alias.

I do play percussion! I am on the Arizona Cardinals Big Red Thunder Drumline! Great times. Ex-fiance, but ya know. A few years ago the Out of the Darkness walk to support suicide prevention was in San Francisco. Sixteen miles of walking through the hills of San Francisco....that was very tiring. The baby in any picture is not mine, but my brother's. See, the creep factor doesn't really bother me because I tend to be an open person anyways. Lol. I was always taught honesty is important and try to take that into my everyday life.
Again, I think some people, if they are more comfortable, should use Aliases, but I think we need to bring this forum onto Facebook as well. First, we can get new creationist opinions to debate against, something that has been lacking in the forums. No offense to Faith, she makes a valiant effort to strongly defend her peoples, but some new blood would be nice and could only increase the action on the board. Which, I find beneficial because it makes me look up information I had not heard about before.

The theory of evolution by cumulative natural selection is the only theory we know of that is in principle capable of explaining the existence of organized complexity. - Richard Dawkins
Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night. - Issac Asimov
If you removed all the arteries, veins, & capillaries from a person’s body, and tied them end-to-endthe person will die. - Neil Degrasse Tyson
What would Buddha do? Nothing! What does the Buddhist terrorist do? Goes into the middle of the street, takes the gas, *pfft*, Self-Barbecue. The Christian and the Muslim on either side are yelling, "What the Fuck are you doing?" The Buddhist says, "Making you deal with your shit. - Robin Williams

That's pretty good. The "Understanding Through Discussion" portion needs to move because it will overlap the "EvC Forum Community" portion on the lower left and the "Like" and other menu items on the lower right. And there's a white line at the top. And it should be bigger because when scaled up to fit the space you begin to see distracting artifacts, particularly around the letter borders.

Name Change
I changed the Facebook name from "EvC Forum" to "Evolution versus Creationism" because of the Facebook search feature. Even though I associated the page with the evolution and creationism topics, a search for evolution did not bring up our page. With the new name a search still does not bring up our page, but searching for both evolution and creationism does.
Either I still have a lot to learn about Facebook searches, or their search facility is pretty weak.

I've just searched through my old HD backup and I found the original fireworks png files for the logo from 2002. The canvas is 800x225, so is much bigger than the image on the evc website. It is also layered with the alpha transparencies preserved, so someone can fiddle around with it easily. If someone wants to PM me an email address or tell me where I can upload it i'd be happy to.

Further Concerns about Facebook Searching
Since a day has passed, I assume Google has indexed Facebook, but Google searches for phrases on our page get back a "No results found." I searched for these phrases, including the double quotes:
  • "EvC Forum brings creationists and evolutionists"
  • "EVC is Facebook official"
After a little more experimenting using Google to search for phrases on random Facebook pages I've come to the conclusion that you can't use Google to search the content of Facebook pages. You can find people and pages, but not content. Does that sound right?
I just found the advanced Facebook search and using the "Contains" box found "EVC is Facebook official", which is in a post, but it couldn't find "EvC Forum brings creationists and evolutionists", which is in the "About" section.
Does anyone know how to do a Facebook search that includes the "About" section?
I am finding Facebook unintuitive.
