Or do you mean by bouncing it, which you can't do with a football? Sure you can ... once.

Wilson Co., Tyson, Nye, others should put up a similar video showing that the temperature cannot change the pressure in a football, bladder and all.

I get the impression that Wilson Co. thinks everyone is talking about air escaping from the ball not a temperature-induced pressure change. I gotta tell ya, a lot of bright people are bungling this thing.

Apparently there are a lot of people, some rather surprising, that do not understand the Ideal Gas Law's relation of temperature to pressure nor that thermodynamics really does work on footballs. Bladder or not, pig skin or not, a football is not made to be insulating.
The Pathfinder kids video shows clearly the drop in pressure when a football is inflated with room temp air then placed in a colder environment. No one, as I am aware, has done a corresponding experiment with different results. What this means is that Belichick's explanation is viable. Note, I did not say honest or correct, just viable. As for experts to trust? Someone might want to talk to those Pathfinder kids.

There has also been a lot of gnashing of teeth over the fact that the Colt's balls (I can't say that without smiling) were within specs when they were tested at halftime as well. People seem to think pressure is pressure and if they are not the same then NE cheated.
The league requires 12.5 to 13.5 psi as the min max. We already know that a temperature change can affect the pressure. What we also know is that the Pats requested their balls at the very minimum psi while the Colts requested theirs at the maximum. Any loss of pressure due to temperature would put the Pats in violation, while the same drop would have kept the Colts within specs. As far as I am aware, the actual pressure results (actual numbers to the significant digit) for the halftime tests on each ball, both teams, have not been released. Anyone know?

Football and the super bowl are some of the least important events in the history of humanity. Hush yo mouth, Damselfly boy. Sport is essential to all cultures and football, the real American kind not that fakey kind where no one wants to score and you can't hit no one at all, is the finest most important sport in the entire history of humanity! Those who are blind to the divine rituals enacted upon the sacred gridiron do not understand humanity, go out of their way to step on ants and put ketchup on their baked ribeye steak!

What were the pressure readings of the footballs tested at halftime?

Reports directly contradict each another on some points... I've read everything from 2 lbs in a few balls to 1 lb in some to .5 lb in others from different media (undisclosed) sources. I can imagine this full disclosure thing that keeps not happening is intended to limit the damage to the NFL's biggest product next Saturday. What could be so bad in full disclosure of this whole petty affair that the league would see as more damaging to the sport's, the league's and the Pat's already destroyed reputations than is happening now? Did Belichick and Brady give all the refs blow jobs in exchange for underinflating their balls (chuckle)? Sports stars, politicians, preachers never seem to learn that full disclosure now is far far less damaging than having the media browbeat you with your denials, obfuscations and lies later. And if there actually is nothing blatantly untoward in this thing then the stvpidity* in letting it fester so long is mindboggling. * Asinine banned word policy

Even though we have funny little balls we score 20 times to your one.

One NFL leak reported that the Patriot ball attendant disappeared into a small bathroom for 90 seconds. It's alleged that that's where the deflation must have occurred. I wonder if anyone thought this is about the same time it takes to take a leak and wash your hands.
I did this a total of 11 times. Total duration: 76 seconds, or 14 seconds less than the 90 seconds the attendant spent in the bathroom. Yes, but did you wash your hands afterward?

...inflate-gate story was cooked up by the NFL to try and boost the number of viewers... I didn't see this brought up anywhere. Where did this come from? I wouldn't think the league would do such a dumb thing since their revenues do not depend on the TV rating for the game, especially since it involves soiling the reputation of a premier team as well as the entire league which can only cost them in the long run. I think this is a media-driven hyped-up non-story. If anyone benefits from viewership it will be NBC and its advertisers.

You might be right, Tanypteryx. This is American big business, the very top of the 1%, and Maciavelli rules.
This place is getting boring....... I'd hate to think we have driven off all those "interesting points of view" but I fear this may be the case. So now it's dueling dictionaries among the regular hoard. Hopefully this is just a lull and a new platter of creationist meat will arrive shortly. A good anti-relativist or a cosmology weirdo would be nice. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will come along with whom you can exchange Fried Damselfly recipes. [ducking]

It's DRAGONflies not Damselflies. On a bed of Angel Hair with a butter sauce of white wine, capers and a touch of Summer Savory.

A couple of Tom's denials appear to be very carefully worded. Perhaps I am nit picking too closely. Yes, they are and, no, you're not. Remember this statement has been gone over by at least a half-dozen lawyers and probably twice that many para-legals. It is hard to sound sincere and natural with everyone nitpicking over the tone and content of every phrase to be sure no misunderstanding could arise. This thing has become laughably stupid. Whether he did or didn't makes no difference anymore. I feel for the guy.
