Bah, we still have the Catholic school system in Ontario (publicly funded Catholic education).
But it's not really like what this article is describing. The Catholic school system here is actually pretty fair and decent. I went through it myself, actually. As far as I can tell it just seems to add a few extra school-assemblies for Easter and Christmas mass. I don't think they have a significantly different curriculum or anything like that. In some cases, the Catholic school system has been reported to produce a better over-all education, even.
