2016
I want to renew this topic and add some more rules concerning behavior in this thread. Our old format was Post Of The Month, but i feel that if anyone sees a post that is too good to be missed, showcase it here.
Suggested Message Format:

Author: Author's Name
Forum: Forum where posted
Thread: Thread title
Message #: Number and Link to the nominated message

It would be tidy and helpful if you copy/paste the format above.

  • Any off topic comments or excessive comments by anyone other than the author of the topics nominated will be deleted.
  • If anyone agrees with a POTM nomination, simply click the like button. If you disagree with a POTM, keep quiet about it.
Here are the 2016 nominations so far:

    1) Nominated by myself:

    Author: Rrhain
    Forum: Coffee House
Thread: After Palmyra ISIS Targets Monuments on U.S. Soil
    Message #: 53

    **********************************************************
Our thespian and wordsmith Rrhain did what I thought was a bang-up job on this post. The thread contained many points of view regarding symbolism, authoritarianism, fascism and free expression. The author of the thread, Jon, started with this observation:
    quote:
From petitioning university presidents to silence political speech to the destruction of historical sites thought heretical, the Fascist Left has been pulling pages right out of the books of some of history's greatest turds in their effort to shelter themselves and others from a world they find distasteful and - oh no! - offensive; to erase everything that does not align with their worldview.

In my opinion, Rrhain made a strong case for what the Confederate Flag represents. The Comic he posted was the best part! Two thumbs up!
    *******************************************************
    2) Nominated by coyote:

    Author: dwise1
Forum: Geology & The Great Flood
Thread: How does a flood ...
    Message #:Message 86

    **********************************************
    3) Nominated by jar:
    Author: Edge
Forum: Geology and the Great Flood
Thread: The Story in the Rocks - Southwestern U.S.
    Message #:Message 58

    jar writes:

... may be one of the most significant posts I've seen here at EvC.
    Wish I had done it.

    4) Nominated by anglagard:

    Author: Ringo
    Forum: Is It Science?
    Thread: Faith vs Science

I might also add that if anyone finds a really good post from older threads and you are reading it for the first time (or rereading it, as I often do) go ahead and submit it here as well. Just remember to keep things neat and tidy and use the suggested format.

Well laid out presentation, with examples, nicely organized, well supported with evidence, and conveyed on an understandable level. An example of how a science based great debate ought to be carried out.

I see at least one other post by Genomicus in the same thread of similarly high quality. Nicely done.

Stile for the best argument about Earth's "specialness"
    Author: Stile
    Forum: Faith and Belief:
    Thread:The meaning of the trinity
    Message #: Message 214

This is the most rational argument against life, and specifically human life, being a miracle of creation because it is found on a planet that seems quite suited for the life that lives on it.

He argues that it would be far more miraculous if we lived on a planet hostile to life.

This is one of those things that I would like to print out on a card that I carry in my wallet to whip out and use as a rebuttal the next time someone uses the "Life is a miracle because Earth is perfect argument", with proper citation of course.

kbertsche, for book reference, at "OEC vs YEC Issues"
    Author: kbertsche
Forum: Geology and the Great Flood
    Thread: OEC vs YEC Issues
    Message #: 194

Not so much a great message, but I thought this book reference needed to be flagged somehow.

    Quoting his entire message:

For Faith and any other YECs who may be lurking here who are wondering about dating, I highly recommend Dan Wonderly's book
"God's Time Records in Ancient Sediments"
. Dan was a geology professor for a short time at Grace College (John Whitcomb was on faculty at the seminary). Dan did not have expertise in radiometric dating, so his book focuses exclusively on non-radiometric evidence for an old earth. The book is a bit dated now, but is still quite good.

Presented in a rather clumsy manner, with links to individual pages. But my impression from a brief look was that this was a pretty good discourse on some basic geology.

In a way, the OE theory is incidental to finding oil - but to find oil it is necessary to understand how the rocks formed, how they changed after they were formed, etc. Finding oil comes from that understanding and so does the realization that the rocks must be old.

In my opinion, the essence of the downfall of young Earthism, among those having a geology knowledge.

In support of the (for lack of a better phrase) "don't go too far when promoting pro-LGBT policy" theme.

    From the message end:

They apply to everybody. We all get annoyed by the behaviour of others. Some things are worth the effort of doing something about it, somethings aren't. As the the lawyers say, 'having principles can be expensive.' Sometimes it's better to just shrug it off.

I'm not attempting to tell individuals what to do - if you want to kick back at the bigots now that you can, go ahead, it makes for great reading. Everytime it happens I think great, bagged another bastard. But at some point it's going to look like you've got a real chip on your collective shoulders - deserved or otherwise.

If you want to win the hearts of the nation you've just conquered on the battlefield, it's generally thought a bad idea to bayonet their wounded. The word magnanimous springs to mind.

There is more quote and response at the source message.

Alas, he followed up this POTM message with one of considerably lesser quality.

If you then add 42 of you diameters of the earth (7,920 * 42), you get to 5,312,640. Add 12 divine measures of 432, the number of square rods in a cubit (160) and the number of sacred hours in a day (24), and you get to 5,318,008.
