A Hand Up and not a Handout
Providing a safety net through government assistance makes our country strongerand it’s time for Americans to stop spreading untrue and damaging rumors decrying the very programs that are creating a brighter future for our nation’s most vulnerable. It’s time for politicians to stop trying to cut meager benefits to struggling families.
Because there are millions of people out there who truly need these programs to help them get back on their feet. And you never knowsomeday, you might be one of them.
I am grateful to be able to pay taxes and that unemployment insurance exists for those of us who through no fault of our own lose our jobs. I have a lot of customers who use government assistance and can readily empathize with them. I dont know how people even survive at minimum wage jobs. They have to work a full 40 hours just to scrape by. They cant make enough to get ahead.
Things happen in life. People get hurt...they get sick...they fall behind. It is our governments duty to help the less fortunate.
Lets talk about the myths.

Chance as a real force is a myth. It has no basis in reality and no place in scientific inquiry. For science and philosophy to continue to advance in knowledge, chance must be demythologized once and for all. —RC Sproul
"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." —Mark Twain "

Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.~Proverbs 28:26

Re: Captalism selects for (rewards) psycopathy?
What gets me is that the facts show that the wealthy are distancing themselves from the rest of us...but that their debt to society is ideologically accepted by the masses yet shunned by the wealthy themselves. How can they accept more wealth and yet deny a social safety net to the casualties of free market economics?

Never say farewell to welfare
I swear! You two!
Welfare is what kept me from being broke in between jobs. I would never take advantage of it, nor would i have refused it. Social safety nets are necessary...without them, people could lose their homes, become homeless...lose their medicines and get sick...all unforeseen perils.

Re: Don't Demonize
RAZD.responding to Cats Eye writes:
So you've been privileged.
This makes your demonizing some people as bums clearer, perhaps you feel entitled to better treatment?
I must confess that at times I have felt entitled...much like Cats Eye. My counselor says that entitlement is a hallmark signature among problem gamblers, if that counts as any excuse.

Re: Don't Demonize
Clearly we need the system where neither knows the other, which the rabbis already knew was the best form of charity.
This actually makes sense.
