Re: Don't feed the trolls.
You mean that he's religious?

No. My father was a professor at Homiletics at a prestigious seminary school in Atlanta. He would argue and debate for hours on end in an honest fashion and I am sorry that I missed opportunities to ask him things while I was here. He was pretty proud of the fact that I was a science and technology-minded kid.

I understand that you've only seen religious person behave as mike does, but he does not represent all religious folk. Mike has a chip on his shoulders... or is that his ass? Either way, I would not let him bend you out of shape.

Re: Don't feed the trolls.
Actually, the only people I've ever met who are so ridiculously stupid as mikethewiz, were devoutly religious. Not only Christians, but others, too. It's not "bend me out of shape". It's that religion can tend to turn otherwise sane people to become crazy. And they unthinkingly tend to repeat stupid, crazy things, no matter how many times they are shown to be stupid.

Perhaps you should get out more. There are people who are stupid on almost every topic imaginable.

Yeah, maybe. Are you hinting that I should go to the nearest Catholic Church to investigate their latest mining plans near the town of Carolina?

He does not give a crap about your rebuttals.

My rebuttals are not merely meant for Mike's benefit, there are others that stray this way too.

I think you should save your rebuttals for those worthy of them.

Our lurkers have seen all these nonsenses many times before plus their rebuttals.

Mike has a history here which we should recognise and not rise to. He's a self-confessed troll who needs to be called on it every time he drives by, not treated like a new member genuinely seking intelligent debate.

If he mends his ways, fine. But until then don't feed him. It makes us look silly - which is his goal.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Mike has a history here which we should recognise and not rise to.

Then don't rise to it.

He's a self-confessed troll who needs to be called on it every time he drives by, not treated like a new member genuinely seking intelligent debate.

This has been done. It would be silly to repeat and argue about it, if someone's goal to was to achieve discord and chaos, it would gratify them.

If he mends his ways, fine. But until then don't feed him. It makes us look silly - which is his goal.

Being right doesn't make one look silly. Mike may be making himself look silly. I come here to primarily to practice explaining flaws in notions, this I have done. I am gratified. I have had lurkers thank me, even for rebuttals of PRATTs. This is gratifying. If Mike is gratified by my having composed and posted said rebuttals, it concerns me not. If your goal is to thwart Mike's gratification, I dare say you are in danger of failing.

Thanks, but I'll "feed the trolls" when the mood strikes me.

Re: feed the trolls
You being right is not irrelevant to him.

I don't care what's relevant to Mike. It's relevant to me, and its relevant to others.

He has a different agenda to you.

I don't care about Mike's agenda.

You make yourself look silly by not accepting and recognising that.

I have neither not accepted nor failed to recognize this. You seem to bothered about it, and you are publishing your bother right where he'll go looking for it; according to your theory of Mike you are giving him what he wants - seems counter productive to your goals to me, perhaps you should stop.

So what we have here is two narcissists feeding each other.

No. Practicing rebuttals is useful. Serving other's interests is neither selfish nor self-aggrandizing. That I am happy to practice rebuttals, and that I am satisfied that others seem to find utility in those rebuttals is not narcissistic.

Aren't you clevere than that?

Narcissism and cleverness are not mutually exclusive.

As long as you or anyone else keeps on feeding him, you're correct.

Then stop feeding him by showing the world his actions are bothering you, stop feeding him by engaging in pointless arguments about him. I'll continue to speak truth in the face of misinformation to the benefit of any who mind find utility in them, to hone my skills at constructing and presenting counterarguments. And we'll both be on our way to succeeding at our goals.

I understand that. Informing others is the primary and most compelling reason for responding to trolls.

On the other hand, I believe that mike's stupidity is readily apparent and that the service provided by responding to him is minimal. Obviously, there is room for disagreement with my opinion.

From my perspective, this site never looks sillier than when some nonsense or other elicits a stream of responses questioning the integrity and intentions of the poster. Seems like it would be much easier just to ignore them if you think the nonsense not worth engaging with.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Take a look through the loony of the month thread sometime. You'll find that people find ways to be stupid about stuff that have nothing to do with religion.

For example, right now the counts are: (5 members, 338 visitors) .

One of the characteristics of creationist claims is that they are designed to sound convincing. Their purpose is to convince the audience: convince non-believers in order to convert them and convince believers that what they believe is not nonsense. Actual truth has absolutely nothing to do with any of it. How convincing it sounds is all that matters. Creationist claims are selected solely on the basis of how convincing they sound, as opposed to scientific statements which are selected by how true they are.

Are you starting to see a pattern here?

On the other hand, I believe that mike's stupidity is readily apparent ...

Uh, sorry, but I do believe that the 2016 US Presidential elections has overwhelmingly disproven the ability of any group of people to see and recognized stupidity even when it's staring them straight in the face.
