You're dead right, brother! The Great Apostasy involves a Great Conspiracy of misleading, mendacious, "scientific" nonsense that the blind, apathetic masses will fall for. Those who have "eyes" will clearly see the deception.

Re: Leonardo inadvertently proves the Flood
The problem is, no one was there to see what actually happened before, during and after the Flood. So a lot of the anti-Flood arguments are based on imagined scenarios and assumptions that could be wildly off the mark. Plus the miraculous power of God to control the forces of nature are never considered.

Wrong ... unless you're a Jehovah's Witness and one of the "144,000". Any Christian who claims to be one of the "elect" is most probably speaking from a position of pride or ignorance or delusion. Only God knows who the "elect" are.

The Elect
Hi Dredge,

I know this is off topic but I have to answer: I think scripture is clear that we ARE to know we're the Elect if we are. It isn't pride, we don't elect ourselves, the Elect know God has chosen us. Some of us even came "kicking and screaming" into the Kingdom against our will. (C.S. Lewis said that of himself. I recently read a couple of books by Rosaria Butterfield who was converted out of her happy life as a professor of English and lesbian leader of the LGBT community in the late nineties. She describes her conversion as a "train wreck" saying she "lost everything but the dog." She and others assert the Calvinist understanding that the drawing of the Holy Spirit is irresistible, that we are converted in spite of ourselves.)

I think the gospel and letters of John in particular make it clear we are supposed to know if we're saved -- he says at the end that's why he wrote his gospel --"that ye might know ye have eternal life," and he writes to a woman in one of his letters whom he addresses as "the elect lady."

=============================

Wish I could think of something to say about the Grand Canyon suit to tie this into the topic. How about: I think we should be very loud about our creationist opinions but I don't think we should try to force them on society. Laugh your head off when you see one of those signs at a major geological landmark that tells you it's millions of years old, but don't sue them.

There.

Re: Leonardo inadvertently proves the Flood
Plus the miraculous power of God to control the forces of nature are never considered.

That's because, by definition, supernatural magic is not science - it's supernatural, which means outside of the natural order and the standard rules of the universe - hence outside of science.

If God exists, and wields the power to will into existence any particular state of affairs, you'd need to persuade him or her to pop themselves down to a lab and get tested to work out how they made their miracles happen, for it to be science.

I'm very happy for anyone to believe anything they want (as long as they don't act on that belief to harm someone) - but they don't get to call what they believe science, until they can observe, theorise, predict, test and evidence their belief using the scientific method.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

The law suit is simply stupid.
The law suit is just another example of the utter stupidity of Creationism and Fundamental Christianity.

Summation
If this clown is really doing science, how is it that he's suing for religious discrimination?

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1
