If the Earth is flat we should be able to cancel flooding from global warming by drilling a hole in the ocean and draining some of the water.

That sounds doable but it turns out to be impractical. The Russians dug the deepest borehole ever at 12,345 meters and had to close up shop because they kept losing the drill heads. This turtle's shell is hella thick!
