Creationism in Australia?
In my distant school days, we studied a generic "Science" in Years 15 and 16, with Chemistry, Physics and Biology available after that. The ToE was taught as a "given"; no detail on why it was rock-solid. There were optional "religious studies" in years 4 and 5, just watered-down Christianity and very forgettable.
Here's a link about the education plans of the Family First Chairman.

Thanks, Firebird.
From the link...
The Age writes:
Schools should teach the biblical creation story alongside evolutionary theory, Family First chairman Peter Harris said yesterday.
I don't like where this is going. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this party.

Hey, Tone, I go so far back, I used to walk to school with dinosaurs.

Aw, come now! I'm sure you're not that old.
But seriously, was evolution covered when you were at school? I'm just curious if it was an issue in your day. It doesn't seem to be now, although "change" may be in the wind if we're not careful.

Basic biology from memory. Fossils, geologic column, cell development, but the theory of evolution rings no bells. The Religious Instruction teachers mustn`t have felt threatened because I don`t remember any warnings about the decay of the human race due to those wicked evilutionists. The decline must have set in later.

Mmm, yes. Fundamentalism: Tasty cold, but delicious hot!
There's something fundamentally (whoops) ahistorical about fundamentalism. Fundamentalists don't want to get involved in history because they know that their beliefs are correct and as their prophets or messiahs intended. In fact they're so sure they don't even have to check.

Re: the academic institution in London
Thanks for that link. Its a very nicely written piece. I was wondering what all that was about, and I think I'm starting to get some idea. So its all about the secular beast that we know as Turkey, eh? Interesting.

Re: the academic institution in London
Thanks. I use my spare time to keep watch of this American import to the Muslim world, and try to engage with it if it goes too far into my territory.
OOT: By the way, considering that I'm enrolled in one, which 'academic institution in London' are you involved in?

Indeed.
Well, that's interesting. I kind of imagined that if it ever were an issue in this country it must have been in bygone days, as I've really seen nothing of it in my time. Unless, as I said previously, it just isn't well-publicized here.
Can somebody tell me, ideally, how much should be covered in high school? How much evolutionary biology is actually necessary to prepare students for a higher education in the subject? I'm just curious, as I, personally, never covered any.

Close enough... still within the U of L, IC (although based at the building one block away with a big N logo).
