quote: Hmmm don't like that argument. It's like saying Sagan, Dawkins, Gould et al were in it for the money and the fame. Of course there was good money in it - but that doesn't mean there was not also great inspiration. The same applies today - there are very fine musicians indeed, and artists, who make fortunes, but their commitment to their art, as art, need not be lesser for it.

I am saying that the direction their work took was sometimes dictated by what their patrons commissioned. University scientists (once tenured) do not work on commissions and they explore what they wish, more or less. Look at John Mack. Getting back to the origional topic:
"Why is christian music so bad?" Bah. If the only examples you've ever heard in your life for good christian music made recently is Amy Grant, you haven't heard good christian music made recently. Sadly, though, I've found that this kind of music is often hard to find, but it can be done. Check out www.RadioU.com, a station in columbus that plays alternative christian music. I think there's some great songs on MP3.com from groups such as the O.C. Supertones, Knowdaverbs, Cross Movement, and Out Of Eden.

This is Metalpunk37 but something got messed up so I had to make a new one.
If you are looking for some good not mainstream, boring, christian Music then I suggest Living Sacrifice, who sounds like Fear Factory or Slipknot, and Hangnail- a punk rock band who sounds like New Found Glory.

Please investigate before complaining. Contemporary Christian music is so much more varied than one would suspect. If you know nothing about Christian artists just say so. It's not fair to imply there are no African American Christian artists out there when you don't even listen to them. Nicole C. Mullins is spectacular songwriter whose songs on could never forget. Fred Hammond is a great tenor singer who matches Brian McKnight and Barry White, sans the love-making innuendos. It's just a matter of opinion on what you think is bland and lifeless. If you think Garbage, Nine Inch Nails, Cibo Matto and Tori Amos have life, then maybe you cannot get into most Christian music. Try listening to some Jars of Clay, Rebcca St. James, Sara Groves or Sean Groves and give me a ring on what you think of their lyrics and melodies. Maybe then I can get a feel on what you actually think is wrong with Christian music.
