And exactly what is wrong with this assumption? What scenario would you give that would have the rest of the solar system form at one time and the earth form at a radically different time? If your bank account was 30,000,000,000 cents you might not be in too much trouble if you were out of balance by 100,000 cents which is 0.0003%. Then in this context "assume" isn't the right word. Because the age of the earth being close to the age of the solar system is based on both evidence and reasoning and testing (as noted elsewhere).Maybe the wording would be: "given that there is no way to conceive of the earth's time of formation being much different from other material in the solar system and no evidence that it was...".You have been asked for a reason to doubt that the earth is much different in formation time than more pristine material of the solar system.You have none. The "assumption" is, as also noted elsewhere, a very good bet since no one has a reason to bet against it.
