Re: Education Level
Is there an correlation between lower levels of education and belief in creationism perhaps? The more generally ignorant you are the more you are inclined to believe?
Most definitely a correlation - see Appendix Table 7-10 at the National Science Foundation page:
http://www.nsf.gov/sbe/srs/seind02/c7/c7h.htm
For example, the percentage of people who said "yes" when asked if early humans lived at the same time as dinosaurs goes from 36% of those who didn't finish high school to 67% of those with postgrad education. The latter number, BTW, is the one that makes me worry.

Dammit! That's what I get for trying to get some work done during posting hours!
Yes, I should have typed "no".

Re: Education Level
Yeah, Percy, that one bugged me, too. They've been using the same survey for several years, and I guess they keep it for consistency's sake.

Re: change
Also in the world's oldest book, where it talks of the future, we can get a good glimpse of how it will be. "All thy children shall be taufgt of the Lord"
The Epic of Gilgamesh says that? Well, I'll be durned!

Re: fundamental chemicalists
But there are millions of children being taught God didn't really make the earth. Kinda like Santa, a fairy tale.
Very like Santa. But for grownups, too.

In that we see children pledging the flag as it was once known... WITHOUT "under God".
To prove what an old geezer I truly am, I'll confess that I learned the Pledge without any gods in it, and then had to relearn it in the new version in second grade. Difficult stuff for a seven-year-old.....

Did you have to do that too? And how did they explain the change? Do you remember any debate about this at all?
No, that was before my time. I have heard from my seniors that it was
(Hand over heart)"I pledge allegiance to (hand outstreched with arm pointing toward flag) the flag...."
But they quit that when Herr Hitler's version got too popular.

Re: majority you ssssay
Good, maybe you can join the majority of americans here, who in a recent poll agreed with gipper on a literal flood.
And let's also jump in with the near-majority (46% of those in an US survey of adults by the National Science Foundation) who don't know that the Earth takes a year to make a trip around the Sun. Just because of educational system apparently really sucks seems a poor excuse to make it worse.
