For April, 2007 (as per previous months):
quote: A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice. A fairly liberal use of this topic is a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.

Sorry guys about making you share a nomination but they are awfully short posts.
In addition, half the nomination if to contrast your responses with the others which, IMNSHO, are too quick on the draw and don't get to the real point.
Message 6Here Crash points out the deep, underlying error in the calculations. he does it succinctly. Message 7Here FallacyCop points out another deep flaw in understanding (this one I missed on my reading of the OP). There is often no need to go on at length if one thinks over the issue and looks at what is really going on. These are examples of posts that we should have more of. However, that is not to denigrate RAZD's excellently laid out (if lengthy because they need to be) posts which I have nominated before and feel need another highlighting again. There 3 for the price of one. Thanks guys.

Forum: Is It Science? Thread: Is creationism science? Post #: 99 I'm almost shirley missing other POTM quality messages, but the above cited latched onto me. It's short, so I'll quote almost all of it:
But even if there is a god, you (or any other creationist) do not hold exclusive rights over the word of god on earth. You (or any other creationist) have not given us any reason to believe that what you say and think is any closer to the true nature of god then anybody else (off course you may think you are, but that is assuming too much -- an act of hubris) Given that, we are left with comparing your claims with the evidence (obtained through experiments directly from the world itself -- the only incontestable source of knowlege of god`s nature we have access to -- god`s creation). Once your claims have failed this most important test, to hold on to preconceived beliefs in the face of evidence would be insane and ungodly. That`s why creationism is not only bad science. It`s also bad theology. My "bolding". Remember - No debating the topic in the POTM forum. Go back to the topic itself, to do that. Moose Edited by Admin, : Add "www." to message link. In Message 18 PD does an excellent job of outlining and interpreting the Parable and also provides a compelling current version.

Thread: Reasons for Creationist Persistence Message: Message 36 In this message Dr Adequate provides a succinct characterization of one common type of discussion-board creationist. A short excerpt to whet the appetite:
Dr Adequate writes: And it never occurs to them to find out if they're right. They know they're right. About subjects they haven't studied. --Percy

Not POTM's of monumental proportions, but they did stand out to me.

Forum: The Bible: Accuracy and Inerrancy Thread: The Bible was NOT man made, it was Godly made Post #: 80 Being a simple minded moose, I like this part:
There's a filk song (that was not a typo) called "Word of God", in which each verse ends with a refrain that changes a bit as it evolves: "Humans wrote the Bible; God wrote the rocks." "Humans wrote the Bible; God wrote the sky." "Humans wrote the Bible; God wrote life." "Humans wrote the Bible; God wrote the world." Also much more. Moose Edited by Admin, : Add "www." to link. Can I second it for a third time or is that fourthing it?
An excellent post dwise1. I like the Bible verse:
And a Bible verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:21: KJV -- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. New KJV -- Test all things; hold fast what is good. NIV -- Test everything. Hold on to the good. Wonderful read! "Peshat is what I say and derash is what you say." --Nehama Leibowitz

Forum: The Bible: Accuracy and Inerrancy Thread: The Bible was NOT man made, it was Godly made Post #: 93 Includes quotes of testimony and links to testimony from ex-YECS Glenn Morton and Steve Robertson, who as working geologist found the value of "reading the rocks". Moose Added by edit: As I see it, the cited message may be an "argument from authority", and thus not really a valid debate method. Still, I think such is an effective way to argue against "young Earthism". Edited by Minnemooseus, : See above.
