Percy for creationists in a nutshell
(emphasis on the 'nut' )
Message 27
It is, as all of Percy's posts, very clear. If everyone were reading the thread could be finished with this post.

Jazzns for a LOT of work clarifying
Message 53
Jazzns summaries the debate to this point and is very clear in his post.

Re: Percy for creationists in a nutshell
Seconded. I especially like his comparison of a certain creationist argument with a hypothetical prosecution of a murderer.
Jazzns' post looks very good, too. I'm going to read it when I have more time, so there may be another second (if no one beats me to it).
This is why I like POTM. Neither one of those threads are ones that I am following, so without POTM I would have missed these two very good posts!

Thanks Ned. It was a long post and I am always glad when all that text doesn't just take up bits in the ether for no reason.

I am extremely impressed with Crash's commentaries on racism and white priviledge. Well written and insightful!
These are in Book Nook -> Black Rednecks and White Liberals
One that especially stands out is message 86, http://EvC Forum: Black Rednecks and White Liberals (by Thomas Sowell) -->EvC Forum: Black Rednecks and White Liberals (by Thomas Sowell)

Doctor Bashir: "Of all the stories you told me, which were true and which weren't?"
Elim Garak: "My dear Doctor, they're all true"
Doctor Bashir: "Even the lies?"
Elim Garak: "Especially the lies"

Buz, I think this message is in pretty poor form, because you're using the POTM nomination thread to advocate a point of view you haven't been able to defend in the original thread.
I strongly suggest you delete it. NJ's message was refuted, he wasn't able to support his contention, and asserting that he defended the remarks that you refer to here misrepresents the thread in question and is therefore contrary to the Forum guidelines. If you believe that black people don't experience educational disadvantages, it's incumbent on you to argue that position in the thread, not here in POTM where it's off-topic. Bad show on your part.

Perhaps your point is valid. I've edited so as not to state an opinion. Whether his opinion was refuted is debatable, however.
Abe: Btw, this was not a tit for tat POM. Before I opened POM to post my original POM, I had no knowledge of the POM given you.

Btw, this was not a tit for tat POM. Before I opened POM to post my original POM, I had no knowledge of the POM given you.
If I gave the impression of making that accusation, I apologize. To tell the truth until I read your message 40 I had no idea I had recieved a POTM nomination.

dwise1 hits the oxymoron on the head
dwise1 defining the term 'Christian atheism' in Message 27 of the Lying for Jesus thread.
You have to wonder if the oxymoron 'Christian atheist' is the best term available, but it's no easy task to think of a better one.
At first it may appear dwise1 is talking in the abstract. But that's not the case. Real life stories exist for every example he describes, with real-life consequences. To read each category in his post is, for me, to be reminded of dozens of people and their triumphs and tragedies.
When you live in a part of the world where Christianity does not dominate, you do notice that atheism takes a different shape just as theism does. It became most obvious to me when I first logged onto EvC and found so many Western atheists defining the ideas they don't believe in along Judeo-Christian lines.
I enjoyed reading this pithy description of the phenomenon. And it's noting the unintended yet very real results that accrue when people spread bad ideas in support of a cause.
