I cast Raise Thread.
Could'nt resist the bad pun!
Seriously though, myself and several friends have been playing D&D for the best part of 25 years and we all are at least agnostic.
Does this means we are less likely to choose to be satan followers the than a somebody who firmly believes in its existance?
Is D&D better or worse than something like Warhammer RPG? It has pretty elaborate 'dark gods'.

MERP eh? Did they crit miss and trip over the imaginary rabbit?
I still play Dark Sun with my buddy but we only have him and I so he runs 4 charaters so it's a bit more like Hero Quest with some camping it up during the plot/talky bits.
Next time you are in Plymouth come join us.
Still, can't wait for 4th ed to come out, yes indeady!

You luddite, you. I bet you wear clogs.
Last time I played 2nd ed the Krynn still had Gods.
And I think that's the issue with xians who hate it; they think it will lure people away from the 'true' god: check out this
Chick.com: Dark Dungeons
It's old so maybe I should not poke fun at it but what's the betting this stuff is still circulated?
Any money you played a druid.

Re: I cast Raise Thread.
I emailed that guy to call him out on it; to challenge him to give me a reference in the then DMG where it actually has any occult significance.
3 years and I'm still waiting.

Re: I cast Raise Thread.
Weeeeel, I hate to admit this but at uni I abused my power as a DM to snag myself a girlfriend.
I'm ashamed to say that I gave out a 'staff of the magi' to her. She was a Dragonlance junky and it has all the powers of Raistlins staff.
I even had it have the same command words: shirak and durak if I remember correctly.
I feel so ashamed.
Still, arf arf!

Re: Confused
Imagine my suprise when (after playing for many years) I discoverd that D&D had real magic and real covens in it.
I've been a DM (the one who tells the story) for about 20 years and I've never had a sniff of real magic (at least not hocus pokus magic anyway) .
Although there are some rule books that deal with demons (T'anari) and devils (Baatzu), the're still none more real that the ones some fundies believe in.
So you have to think if one believes demons in the one book of fiction are real it's no stretch of the imagination to believe demons in another book of fiction are real.

Unfortunately they used to have more "demonic" names - and they changed them at least partially because of the pressure from the Christian nutters who complained.
Yeah, that's where t'anari and baatzu replace demon and devil.
The psychologist and the girl first had sex after returning from a D&D convention in Houston (Houston Chronicle, 8 May 85)
What they leave out is that they both had been drinking water and breathing air and most daming of all they both had opposable thumbs.
I confidently expect a fundy campaign against thumbs .

Re: Confused
What exactly is it you are saying here?
That any thing that does not include your god is evil?

Ya, I know that.
But he is saying that the abscence of his god [in things] is evil.
So when I think of something that does not include his god[e.g. my old EverQuest character], then that is evil.

Re: Got God?
Well then you must have a massive issue with cogntive behavioural therapy: how you can see helping people to help themsleves as being in any way negative is beyond me.
