Heaven and Hell
jar writes:
My idea of heaven is a college with only the greatest teachers. Every day you will learn something new and will be challenged. You will never learn it all but get glimpses of what you will learn tomorrow.
So if you wanted to relax and not be challenged for a week or so, would they boot you out of Heaven?
Hell would be just the opposite, a universe filled with WWF, reality tv, the Apprentice, Lite Beer and Ball Park Franks. It would be comfortable and non-threatening, secure yet unrelenting.
So Hell would be non-threatening??? Would Heaven thus be threatening??

So i wont have an option of laying about on a cloud watching reruns of Seinfeld, and 2 and a half men?
I suppose it all depends what we assume Heaven is supposed to be like.
Will humans do and have exactly what their little heart desires? Is heaven kinda like winning the lottery and getting laid all in one??
Is heaven about us or about God? Or both?

Is That All There Is?
Frako, I somehow imagine your life and world view summed up in this song!

So Summing Up What Heaven May Be Like
So to sum up what heaven may be like....
" be quiet drink and eat".... "We hillbillies are good people...."
(Whoever doesn't think like we do has something happen to him fast )
You can drink there as much as you can,
and do whatever you want,
you can say whatever you want
and nobody goes into prison because of this.
I think I understand.
We Americans were always used to doing what we wanted...shaping foreign governments, attacking South American dictators that tried to raise the price of coffee or sugar...you know?
I guess neither one of our cultures ever listened to God...if He in fact ever tried to tell us anything. You always suspected He was out for your money, and we always thought He was giving us ours.
I guess that...quite honestly...I expect life to be better with God than without Him.
Frako, do you ever think our cultures would get along? (Or would you guys beat us up? )

Is the death of a son any big deal for a Deity?
Iano writes:
Heaven is 'very easy' and 'very hard' to get into. Very easy in that its God who gets you in. It only takes a second of your time (or less). Very hard in that he had to pay a hefy sum to allow it to happen. His son..
For some reason, I dont feel that God Himself sacrificed all that much. Its like a dictator who has the election rigged. Even if His Son died, He could always bring him back.

If thats all there is, my friend...
Hooah writes:
I, personally, would MUCH rather live in modern day Sweden or Finland (which can both be considered "without god") than the Israel (notably WITH god) mentioned in the bible.
How about you? What does that say about being with and without god?
All I can say is that I prefer a democracy to a Theocracy any day of the week. I guess that what I am asking you in this topic is this:
When you die, do you turn to dust? Should the focus be on what we do now...while we are alive?
I know that I don't spend a lot of time worrying about what I might be doing in an unknown afterlife. I would prefer that God exists, however, if only because --like Peggy Lee says---Is That All There Is?

Once you stop worrying about that sort of thing life gets a lot easier.
Shorter and less important, too. Of course, for many, eternal life is achieved through having children. That's all they have to carry on their selves. Of course, protecting the interests of the children is one of the underlying causes of wars.

Come on Phat. Think about this. This is the only life I know I have.
All I can say is this. People who make light of the belief that God is fake are as notorious as people who go around trumpeting the belief that He is real.
The ideal would be someone who is quiet about either account. Not to say I'm that quiet about my belief, but i'm eventually leaning that direction.
Hooah, regarding my assertion that wars are caused by protecting offspring writes:
I've never heard that one before. Got any evidence for that?
Wealthy people are not simply greedy. They amass great fortunes to preserve their families. Wars are indirectly caused because those who have everything won't give it up and allow the less fortunate to have a slice.

This was rather interesting. I realize that Christian TV is often commercialized, but this guy seems convinced of the experience he was selling/telling.

Must everything be linked to evidence? Cant some experiences be real to us even if they were imagined?
