Likewise, is it reasonable to expect those of us who dont study, to simply accept the results of those who do study?

Good question and one that has often puzzled me. For example I have noticed that many people who will not accept biological evolution because they haven't studied it and do not understand it have no problem accepting the findings of nuclear physics, a topic they are equally ignorant about. Why is that?
