Re: Deep Dea Life
The life that lives around the deep sea vents live at a pressure level that would make eukaryotes explode. How is it that there are creatures living down there? They apparently are not eukaryotic life forms so what are they?

All of the multicellular animals you see around deep sea vents are eukaryotes.
What really gets a person is the difference in pressure. This is a big problem for us because we need air spaces within our bodies. No such problem for aquatic life. The pressure between the outside of their bodies and the inside is the same, so no pressure differences. This prevents the body from being crushed.

Re: DNA
Is DNA more like a recipe book or an architecture blueprint that contains the instructions to make materials needed to build it?
It looks like a bar code to me and I don't understand how scientists interpret it.

Re: DNA
barbara,
Do understand what a "codon" is?
What mRNA, tRNA are?
What a ribosome does?
Where Amino Acids are used?
What gene switches are?
What a Hox gene does?
Explaining what DNA is and does is quite complex. Without these concepts some simple comparison to recipe books or blueprints is useless.

Re: DNA
Your response to me indicates you are not qualified to give me the correct answer. The answer I am looking for can only come from someone that has years of experience studying genetics that is able to explain it in simple terms.

Regardless. Without a familiarity in these other concepts any "simple" explanation will not give you the understanding you seek. And any more accurate explanation will only confuse you more.

DNA is like a ticker tape that has symbols for amino acids on it, and when a cell puts amino acids together in that order, they fold into proteins.
It looks like a bar code to me and I don't understand how scientists interpret it.
Well, with this:
DNA doesn't look like a "bar code" so I'm not sure what you're talking about. DNA looks white and stringy:

Re: DNA
Hi Barbara,
This thread isn't intended as a primer on DNA, but a thread that describes DNA seems like a good idea. If you propose such a thread over at Proposed New Topics consisting of a few of your questions about DNA I'll promote it as soon as I can.
