On my first college field trip out of the country, my dad booked airline tickets online for me (I didn't have a credit card then). The password he put on them so I could collect them at the airport was "Rockhound" - my dad has an odd sense of humour and I suppose that it must have been funny at the time, seeing as I was a geology student.
Anyway I thought just plain Rockhound sounded wrong, and I was mulling over what else I could use when it occurred to me there was no sign of any other Irish posters on EvCForum. So IrishRockhound sounded right.

WIZ :A person considered exceptionally gifted or skilled
n : someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field
When I named myself 'mike the wiz', I was arrogant and thought I knew everything. Now, my attitude is the opposite, I am embarrassed if I make a mistake, and I know that I know very little. Although I know more than I knew then. (figure that one out)
'Dilbert fine hog' isn't my descent into insanity. It's infact a paint brush I use for oils. I merely substituted the 'F' for 'D', as I thought Filbert fine hog didn't sound as funny.

Notorious Alias
When I used to first work with teenagers, they started calling me Triple XL because I wore an extra large T-shirt. I joked that I was XXXL because I was so "Phat" or cool! They then started calling me Phatboy, with a wink and a nudge that the name was spelled P H A T instead of F A T!
So the name has stuck, although now they call me Pheezo Beezo!

Re: Notorious Alias
There was a singer a while back called Fatboy Slim. So, should Phatboy slim?

From testing EvCForum:
• :D (testing smilies)
• Ben
• [] (testing dbcodes)
• Be
• http://espn.go.com (testing URL munching)
From testing the chatroom:
• $scrub#
• ^ (testing handling of chat "control" characters in usernames)
• a /boot phat (this one made PhatBoy paranoid for a while
• b /boot phat
• Ben 'Al Thor (I thought the "'" character in Rand 'Al Thor's name might prevent him from entering chat--for a while it did. Not sure if that is still a problem... although I've never heard a word out of Rand 'Al Thor about it.
• benbenbenbenbenbenbenbenb (testing the length of valid user names)
• lol (testing if my name would appear as a smiley)
From wanting to see my alias at the top of the user's list:
• A_A_BensAtTheTop (failed to get on top)
• AAA_BensAtTheTop! (failed to get on top)
• aaaaa_ben (I really am this dumb. failed to get on top)
On a whim:
• Ben! (Made me feel that my alias was "exciting" and even "cool"
• bencip19 (my original, "hella lame" alias)
• BenCip19 (because EvCForum wouldn't log me on when I was just "bencip19" and I tried to log in with alternate capitalization)
• Benjamin (I got sick of Ben
• BenNay (some people, as they get to know me, call me "Benny". But they always wind up saying "BenNay")
• Bunk (just beacause it was one of those days)
• Captain Alias (PhatBoy called me this in chat one day. I thought it would be "clever" if I suddenly re-appeared in chat using that name. Oh, I brought the house down that day.)
• Farva (Supertroopers)
• kitanai (Japanese for "dirty", which is probably the truest thing I've said here about myself)
• Mr. Alias (PhatBoy at it again)
Oh yeah, and
my current one:
• Ben (my name)

riVeRraT
Well mine goes back about 32 years to when I was 8 years old.
I needed a handle for the CB.
I liked driving my Dad's boat down the river real fast, and I always dreamed of having a ski boat with a big block chevy in it, better known as a "rat" motor.
Hence the name riVeRraT.
My first radio control boat was named that, and all boats I owned to this day are still named riVeRraT

Mine's rather simple to figure out if one has read superhero comics; Hal Jordan is the name of the (IMO) best Green Lantern. The story of Hal's redemption was so inspirational to me, that I adopted his name for this forum, since I have learned a great deal here.
On other boards I am also EarnerstBorg9 (saw that on Wil Wheaton's site, I think), Green-Lantern and a few others I cannot remember.

A friend once asked me why I decided to study geology and I replied with, "Because rocks are so cool!" It wasn't long after that that I signed up for my first email account and then used it here as well.

There didn't seem to be any point in posting here as my handle is pretty obvious. But I realize that there are other similar names I could have used, such as Hope, Charity, Grace, Mercy, Glory or Gloria, etc.

Bob Geldof's fault
I always got called Fee or Fifi then Bob and Paula named a child Fifi Trixibell. Suddenly everyone started calling me that. Then another smart a*%e started calling me Trixie. Then I discovered puters and the internet, had to think of a moniker and Trixie seemed obvious. It had to be one I couldn't forget and boy, I'd tried to forget it for long enough without success so I figured I was safe with it. The avatar is just because I wanna be Lara Croft, no link to Trixie at all. To join the checkout line with dual Uzis is a fantasy of mine - I hate waiting in line.

"If you suffer from hurry sickness and your in a grocery store and you've got a choice between line A and line B, you find yourself guessing: how many people, how many carts, how many items per cart. And if you get in line A, you keep track of the person who-would- have-been-you in line B. You keep watching that person....
And if that person is out the door and you're still in line...you're kind of depressed ... for the rest of the day"
