Quoting myself, from message 13:
quote:
Initially, you were looking to become just as bad; fortunately that didn't come to be. I look forward to further conversations with you.
After what I perceived to be an ominous start, I am now most happy to have TB contributing to the discussion.
From Mark, message 14:
quote:
There is a trend for all newcomers to post a lot, so, if there's any danger, it is that TB will post too much & not be able to keep up with the replies.
There is a very real danger of one, especially of the creation side, getting spread too thin. This situation applies to TC also.
I sometimes (miss?)perceive that things sometimes degenerate into short exchanges of the two sides both saying the other is saying nothing new (ie TB and Joe). I may well be very wrong. In general, all I'm trying for, is to encourage all to strive for quallity postings.
TB, once again, I do find your presence at this site, to be a most welcome event.

JM: I don't think you are necessarily wrong about that at all. I make a reasonable attempt to accomodate, but sometimes the best response is to repeat a previous response. After all, I can't change the data simply because someone wants me to. I would say that repetition is inevitable in the cre-evo debate. I'll work on trying to bring something new.

OK Moose. I liked your frank opening post of 'Back to the fudamentals . . .' very much and I hope you meant what you said. My opinion obviously will grate agaist yours but let's try and co-exist.

RE: THE USE OF "REPLY QUOTE" FUNCTION
I encourage all to use restraint in using the reply quote function. I am seeing many examples of massive quotations. Some have quotes within quotes, within quotes, etc.
A prime example of the problem can be seen at http://EvC Forum: If we are all descended from Noah ... ,
especially at http://EvC Forum: If we are all descended from Noah ... .
I suggest more the use of copying and pasting, using the UBB code for smaller individual quotes. Please see the UBB code help page at
EvC Forum: dBCodes , if needed.
Thanks,
Adminnemooseus

"Posting many messages in a short time period usually only indicates a lack of thought behind the messages."
I am on a limited time schedule becuase of much practice and study, and only have a few minutes to spend in this forum a day. I do enjoy reading the topics and learning more.
As to the above quote, I post a lot of messages at a short time, in response to one message at a time. I lose track quite often, and I do agree most of the time it does indicate a lack of thought. But in my defense, I think many times before hitting that submit button.
As to the rest of the post, I agree, and will make sure that I live up to these standards.
Thanks for posting this Moose.

Moose,
Do you know any geology books that would help me start to learn about the universe and the earth forming? I know very little on this subject outside what biology says about it. I would like to know more, so I can follow some of the threads having to do with a geological slant.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Giving this a bump, because I think it's important that all see.

Another thing I see, is the quoting of the entire previous (or near previous) message. As I see it, it is plenty easy to scroll up a bit to see that information, and quoting it largely results in just a bunch of redundant text.
I may be wrong about this, but that's the way I see it.
Regards,
Adminnemooseus

I fully agree with Moose.
Either quoting a few lines or a simple summary is much better IMO:
Epigenetics is a major player? Well, blah, blah, . .
is much neater. The reader goes back to the other post only if they need to.

Hi Moose,
Just checking in briefly. I'm going to try to fix Wordswordsman's poorly quoted posts and would appreciate it if you'd help Wordswordsman learn how to quote. When he uses reply quote he actually deletes the close quotes, and that's why his messages seem to get narrower and narrower. He must not understand how they work, and he apparently doesn't care as he continues to post messages with quotes so garbled no one can tell who's saying what.
Added by edit: I see the worst post was by Mammuthus, who for some reason began following the identical technique as Wordswordsman.
Please, folks, either learn to use the quotes or don't use them. Thanks!
I've fixed the worst of the messages in that thread that had poor quoting, maybe five messages in all.

Comment by Adminnemooseus: I suspect that Mammuthus meerly quoted the previous mess, and inadvertantly ended up with a variation of the mess in his message - but maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry about that. I was assuming there was a format built in that would hold up by just copying the previous poster's techniques. I'll go check out the help section before posting again.

Minnemooseus started this topic as a place to offer up his suggestions for forum methodology. Later, he was granted "Admin" status, and adopted the alter-ego name of Adminnemooseus, for posting his administrative efforts.
I, Adminnemooseus, have now been granted my own membership status at this forum, and will (hopefully) no longer be posting under minnemooseus's name.
It apparently hasn't happened yet, but it is expected that Adminnemooseus will be granted "Admin" status, and minnemooseus will be stripped of such status.
Cheers,
Adminnemooseus
