I SAID NOT ONE WORD ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION IN THE POST THAT SNC SO IRRELEVANTLY AND RUDELY ANSWERED. I SPOKE OF "THE CHRISTIAN SOUL OF AMERICA" WHICH IS THE REASON THIS NATION WAS BLESSED. AND SINCE IT HAS BEEN ERODED WE ARE GOING TO STOP GETTING THE BLESSINGS. 9/11 WAS A HINT.
Also, like all liberals he thinks Jefferson and Franklin invented America, the two least religious of the bunch. Madison was a true Christian and his reason for opposing an "ecclesiastical" established church was based on the European experience in which sects were at the mercy of the national church. But this is irrelevant. I was not talking about the government but the SOUL of America which was, as Toqueville pointed out, Christian to a conspicuous degree. Expect to be called on it everytime you post this nonsensical garbage. If you want to discuss American history start a thread... otherwise expect to have every nonsensical post you supply shot down. I'm sick of you making things up about american history and not supporting them (among other subjects). the soul of america? Yeah, give me a break; what in the world does that mean. I think the chi of america is taoist. Faith, how can you deny the taoist chi of america??? America is and always has been a secular nation with no official religion. That is a fact and if you don't think so you need to go back to grammar school. Later

It's people with your ignorant attitude and especially your abusiveness that make me almost WISH Islam would take over, as they intend to do.

Come on, Candle Girl. There is so much bogus stuff here I don't know where to start.
quote: First of all, I don't see that happening for *anyone* in this country. Sure you're not mistaking us for Canada?
quote: Actually, its the American school system that does a pathetic job of teaching anything about geography or history - outside of American history.
quote: Since when do all latin immigrants demand everything be printed in Spanish ? This is just plain imflammatory rhetoric from the right, same as everything else in your list.
quote: Spoken like a true, ignorant, inbred redneck who has never left his own county, let alone country. This is perhaps the most ironic of all these stupid statements. Anyone who has actually ever BEEN to Mexico (and I don't mean just an afternoon visit to some border town to drink Tecate and tequila) knows that most Mexican people are amazingly charming, hospitable, and friendly to *everyone* and their communities haven't got half the cultural and racial biases and intolerances that are evident in ours. They DO welcome Americans that go down there - Mexico is a FAR friendlier place to visit than America for people of almost any nationality. And I can speak from experience as someone who has travelled *extensively* in both countries.

How is correcting factual errors abusive?
I'm simply not going to let you make false/incorrect assertions with no support anymore. It's not happeneing. So expect this every single time you do it until you stop. In any case.. what was the subject here? Oh yeah immigration. I personally think we need to be able to control immigration before we can do anything else about it. As long as there are a steady stream of illegals coming in any law we make is meaningless. This message has been edited by SuperNintendo Chalmers, 04-12-2006 02:30 PM

SNC writes: I personally think we need to be able to control immigration before we can do anything else about it. Well that's easier said than done, insn't it?At least without turning 1/5 citizens into a border guard. I assume you're not in favor of the 'big long fence'? I propose two approaches in general. 1. Reduce incentives for illegal immigration, rather than criminalizing the immigrants themselves. If they can't find work they'll stop coming. We could start with better regulation of the businesses that are hiring them. If they really need cheap immigrant labor, give them a legal path to get it. At least with guest workers you have a paper trail. 2. Increase incentives for them to stay home. This is much harder, but the best long term solution. If Mexico had more jobs and a fairer wage structure for workers more would stay home. Conservatives might say this is not our responsibility, but it is in our interest. I think this will happen over time with the maquilladoras etc, as it has in Japan and Taiwan, for example, but it will require an awful lot more economic development. American investment in Mexico is helping, but not quickly enough. Another problem is the horrific inequality in wealth distribution and wage structure. It is an unfortunate legacy of Spanish collonialism, but hardly an area where we can lead by example.

Move to California or anyplace in the west or along the border. You are obviously sheltered up there in Kansas. I have to punch in whether I want my ATM to talk to me in Spanish or in English. Call any government office. Even you should know this. You will be asked if you want English or Spanish. All official forms are in both languages and many other things as well. Californians know how aliens make use of the welfare and medicaid system, when citizens often can't. I have a friend who is married to a Mexican man who is a citizen of the US and HE complains that Americans get less access to medical care and other services than illegals in this country. In fact I've heard this is the case in general with legal US citizens originally from Latin countries. They are aaware of this fraud and just as put out at it as any so-called "redneck."
The ignorance is with the wilfully blind liberals of this nation, some of whom are the ones making sure the aliens get treated better than the citizens too. This message has been edited by Faith, 04-12-2006 04:12 PM

Actually, I can select Spanish as an alternative on my ATM as well.
But this is hardly an inconvenience worth griping about. It merely reflects the desire of the bank to get some of the money Spanish speaking people are spending in the economy. And as you point out, MOST of them are not illegal. All these protestations don't really add up to any kind of evidence that would justify all the bigoted attitudes reflected in that email you copied. I notice you pointedly ignored my protest that Mexico is actually a very friendly and fun country to visit, which contests your email friend's contrary implication. But if you want to see legislated bilingualism in action, try Canada.I don't like it and its a huge waste of tax money - a failed political ploy to assuage separatism. I am definitely in favor of the US declaring English its offical language - and soon before English-speakers become a minority. While I am in favor of English education for all immigrants, I am not in favor of denying people access to some essential services in their own language. Spanish is a neat language and more Americans would benefit by learning a second language. It broadens your perspective and provides you with a new way of thinking. I was taught French in school, but I taught myself Spanish in South America and I much prefer it for some reason.

I did not say it was an inconvenience, the point was to demonstrate what you had denied, that Spanish IS demanded in this country now, although citizenship requirements have always included a knowledge of English.

Well no doubt there is a demand for some government services in Spanish, and there probably need to be better incentives for all immigrants to learn English. But your implicit suggestion that we should deny them any government service in Spanish smacks of intolerance. They can't all learn English their first day here.

Did any other immigrant group ever get services in their own language?

What a ridiculous non sequitur. We don't treat any other immigrants this way. It's bad for the country to do so. You're the true bigot. Your knee-jerk canned liberal correctness and in fact your denunciation of others as bigots is the true meaning of bigotry.
