I don't mean to be ghoulish, but . . .
this is from the same account that posted this:
Obit
Which stated that you had died.
So, the options are:
  • you are Mark Twain
  • the executor of the estate is posting in your name
  • a hacker or some other person is using the account
What gives?

I don't intend to track down the post, but as I recall the current poster stated that he was a close relative of the original, who had taken over the account.

well, a belated welcome to the new lyx2no. and sorry for your loss.
It seems what you say is implied in this message:

I think I'll retreat back to lurker mode for the rest of winter break now.

Not at all
My uncle, who also gave me his real name, was a retired captain in the USAF. About ten years ago he was in Africa and got parasites. About four years ago he came to live with us and spent a lot of time in the hospital. They kept having to remove bits that had become necrotic. It was the only time he could leave his bed since the beginning of summer. He died after surgery on October 31.
I am the oldest so I got his room, along with his books, rocks and computer. He loved arguing and telling me things. This site was on his computer. He had mentioned it more then once. I wanted to see what it was about.
Further down I read, "Sorry for your loss." Thank you, I'll miss him greatly. He was my best friend and teacher.
Oh yeah. It was my mum who wrote the first message here.

Re: Not at all
I was sad to hear that the original lyx2no had died. He was a good poster, very intelligent, very knowledgeable and very funny. You have quite a bit to live up to!
I think it's nice that you have decided to take on his mantle. I have a feeling that he would be rather pleased with the idea.
Welcome to EvC by the way.

Re: Not at all
I'm sorry, too. Lyx2no was always one of the more entertaining posters at EvC.
I've been keeping a list of entertaining quotes from EvC, and a sizable portion of the list was written by lyx2no.
Ironically, I had stopped keeping quotes for the past couple of months, until you wrote one that I had to have (the one about a silliness quota at the end of the year). Apparently, both writing style and sense of humor run in your family. It's certainly good to have a sequel.

Thank You
Thank you Granny Magda and Mantis and all others.
Unfortunately, I've received a weeks TMI suspension from my mum. She says it's TMI but I think it has more to do with my earlier anti-Biblical contentions because I've also been given a weeks extra hour of Confraternity before and after school when we go back, where I will be bringing up the subject of Eve's gonads. I'll probably get away with that comment because she won't be monitoring my computer usage until I get to come back on. But if not .

Don't do that Dave.

welcome lyx2no2
(belated) to the fray lyx2no (the younger)
Your uncle sounds like a great guy. From what I've seen, I think he would approve.
I think we should call you lyx2no2.
Enjoy.

Re: welcome lyx2no2
Thank you, RAZD.
My uncle was terrific. He was the only one who took my interest in sci-fi writing seriously. He love it too. He left me every book Asimov, Anderson (Poul) and Heinlein ever wrote and every edition of Astounding Science Fiction from 1946-1959. The best years for sci-fi in my humble opinion.
He also left me a lot of rocks and minerals. Shelves of them. I've an aunt (in-law) who is a geologist for hire. She helps me understand the importance of each. Though sometimes they're just cool. Crystals inside crystals.
I thought of changing it to lyx2no2 but didn't because I thought it might just come up as an alias. It is good though.

It would unless you enrolled as a new member with that name, however WE can call you loyx2no2.
... Asimov, Anderson (Poul) and Heinlein ...
Sounds like a collection I'd like peruse (I have most of Anderson's SF (don't care for his fantasy), a lot of Asimov (the robot books, the foundation "quadrilogy", etc) and a number of Heinlein. I'm a hard core "hard SF" fan, which is the type predominant in that time period.
I also like Gordon R Dickson (Dorsai and Childe Cycle), AE VanVogt ("World of Null-A" was my introduction to SF) and for comic relief I like Ron Goulart.

Fantasy
don't care for his fantasy
I don't care for anyones fantasy except Robert E. Howard, and that has more to do with how easy it is to read. I'm sure I'll grow out of it (God willing). I live in dread of having to read Tolkien or Lewis
