Yes, but 58% of Wisconsin voters said they wanted a ban.

wow... the massacre continues
Bye bye Rumsfeld...
This is truly a great thing for our soldiers regardless of which side you were on... I think everyone can agree that Rumsfeld was a big problem

And he actually asked a reporter "you think I'm nuts?" I wish Helen Thomas were there and he'd asked her that.

did anyone see where Bush lost it and started swearing? They had to bleep him out at his own press conference.
Wow... there's a first
Also.... bush did crack a GREAT joke.
They asked him about his reading contest with Rove... and Bush said...
"I'm losing.. I obviously worked on the election a lot harder than he did"

Good news?
What has to be asked is if Robert Gates will be able to prepare a strategy for Iraq. I personally hope so. He is one of the members of the Baker Commission and the little bit of news that has leaked out of their conclusions has been hopeful. In addition, I look back on another military leader, General George Marshall. At the time General Marshall was the Secretary of State instead of Defense. However, he rightly saw that the battle was actually one of economics and education and the the military role was for logistics more than anything else.
If we can create a Marshall Plan for the Middle East, if we can recognize the ethnic divides that exist there just as there were ethnic divides in Europe at the time, if we can change the emphasis from a war of destruction to a joint effort for construction, perhaps there is great hope for Iraq.

the US electorate
A breakdown from the BBC
BBC NEWS | Americas | Domestic issues swing it for Democrats
In this election it appears Democrats reassembled the elements of the electorate that gave national election victories to Bill Clinton--suburban voters, married women, and Catholics.
The two most important issues cited by voters were 'Economy' and 'Corruption.' 'Terrorism' and 'Iraq' followed.

Virginia Senate Race
Here in Virginia, there will be a recount...and the actual result from the recoiunt won't be official until November 27. Right now Webb (D) has about a 7,000 vote lead out of some 2 million votes cast.
In Virginia, the loser can ask for a recount if the difference is less than 0.5% in the first vote. Last time there was a recount, in te last attorney genral race, a grand total of 27 votes were changed. So a recount should still favor Webb.
I heard on NPR that Democratic senators like Chuck Schumer were asking Bush to start the bi-partisonship by asking George Allen (R) to concede. But I don't think that will happen.
On the other hand...Virginia did vote in a state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage by nearly 60%. It has a statute in it to also deny legal status to unions that approximate marriage.

I mean, this is America. Everybody loves seeing lesbians go at it, as long as they are both hot and not in a monogamous, legally sanctioned relationship.

I'm still sated by Haggard's, "I did not have sex with that man!" and "I bought the meth but I didn't use it!"
Too, too rich: better than chocolate (well, milk chocolate, anyway; dark chocolate is still better).
I don't mind if Georgie Boy swears. I'd sure like to get him drunk and ask him about that National Guard service, though.
