I learn a lot on this message board, and considering the average level of education and experience of many of the evo posters I think it's a real shame that almost all of the discussions are somehow colored by religion. Is there any possibility that a forum might be created for general science arguments and discussions, one where religion would be considered off-topic? If such a forum were created would anybody come to it?
I know the Coffee House is available, but even that seems to be filled with religious bickering. Few posters seem to go there.
To be fair, perhaps a religion-only forum could also be created, where science and biblical higher criticism would be considered off-topic. That might be edifying, in some bizarre way.

But that is the defined function of this web site. The clash between science and creationism (religion).
I suspect Percy is disinclined to further diversify , but that is his decision.
How are we going to keep non-science from intruding into the "Pure Science" forum, or keep science from intruding into the "Pure Religion" forum? Personally, I think we're having plenty of trouble moderating what we currently have.

My current discussion with Eta Carinae and chjs about black holes would be a candidate for such a forum. I should really have posted it on an Astronomy forum somewhere.
Mike.

I agree with Moose. While one may glean interesting information from the scientists and informed laypeople on the site, the focus here is not as a science education tool. That should be done researching sites and literature devoted to the subjects of interest.

Maybe the forum could be "Other Science" or "Non-Evolution Science." You get the drift. Scientists here could also talk about their current research, for instance, or their area of study. I know Mammuthus is a gene jockey, but am curious how many other lab benchers there are out there. Heck, we could even trade a few helpful hints when somebody is stuck with a problem in the lab. Maybe it could be something like "Coffee House for the Science Nerds." That might work.

I for one, would be very interested in a science only forum. One of the reasons I don't generally post is to avoid getting involved in religiously motivated debates. I enjoy scientific discussions greatly but I really don't want to get pulled into any arguments. I like various fields of science but some of the topics I find the most fascinating tend to offend some people, I think. Anyway that's my two cents (since I so rarely put it in).

You mean a Free for Nerds forum
It might not be a bad idea. Some of us could describe a project we worked on or are working on, how we approached the problem, tested our hypothesis etc...in other words, demonstrate how methodological naturalism is practiced. It might take away some of the mystery for some of the people on the site who seem to think we wave magic wands and their gods disappear.
