Re: logically . . .
If true that more americans have been killed by toddlers in just ONE year than by terrorists in the last TWELVE years since 9/11, then there is only one logical action for politicians to take:
INCREASE the already bloated military spending and NSA budget for spying on americans.
No, no, you have misunderstood the message.
We must arm more toddlers so they can kill the terrorists.

I think the logic is that you just don't have enough terrorists.
Another war might do it - the kids are just showing the way.

So a civillian contractor / veteran snaps.
Suffering from a wide range of psych problems and past rage blackouts, he is able to obtain a black rifle and with the proper identification and credentials gains naval yard access and proceeds to randomly shoot folks eating their lunch for reason not yet disclosed.
What a asshole.

Re: Guns for Tots
I seem to remember Wolfie saying it at least once every episode in Citizen Smith in the 70s too. (Quite clever British sitcom from years back, for the guys outside the UK).

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

First against the wall come the revolution
You've prompted me to do a bit of rummaging around on the internet for the earliest known use of the phrase, but I've found nothing concrete. The earliest claimed use I've come across was someone on a forum saying that pretty much the same saying was used in German about Alfred Kerr in 1933, in the Nazi paper Voelkischer Beobachter. I've been unable to verify this.
A very similar expression, but without the 'up against the wall' formulation, can be found in the Evening Standard of Pennsylvania, from 8th July 1936:
quote:
Almost furled in the flying American flag at his side, he was hot gospeling doom for capitalism and religion from a soap box in Columbus Circle, the haven for discontents. His long hair in volcanic eruption, nostrils gloating, he was in fine furor. "A guy like that," twitched Bob Brinkerhoff, "will probably be the chief shootee, come the revolution."

The Pentagon is way ahead of you . . .
The School of the Americas, the "counter-terrorist" training school, located at Fort Benning, Georgia, has just opened its pre-kindergarten wing on campus. Check out some of its required uniforms for the pre-cadets:
It's no joke, the kids are taking the training seriously:
Still in the preliminary stage is the fetal-military-training project. Check out the issuing of dog-tags on this embryo:
Aint the never-ending budgeting for wars on 'terrorism' great!!! Aren't the people who keep voting in the same politicians great! USA! USA! USA!

One THOUSAND posts . . .
Hey, I just noticed, I am one post away from my one thousand post at EvC. If I have read the rules and FAQs of the forum carefully, and believe me, as a literate americun I have, I believe Percy rewards me by delivering to my house a pink cadillac.
I really just can't . . .

Despite not "having to" gun manufacturers do so anyway.
They're marketing guns to the parents of five-year-olds. The children want them but the parents aren't obligated to buy them.
If the parents were responsible gun owners, chances are the children would be too.

And then there is this case in Michigan, where two people who had carry permits
had a road rage incident, and killed each other.

So, the topic is random shootings
Visually impaired can obtain gun permits in Iowa
"What do the visually impaired gun owners say?
Michael Barber told the newspaper the following: When you shoot a gun, you take it out and point and shoot, and I don’t necessarily think eyesight is necessary.
Or brains apparently....

I read that with bemusement too.
One of the pitfalls of a written constitution I guess. The right to bear arms is a Right. With a capital R. Bestowed, unchanging and for all time, by the perfect wisdom of a few men who happened to be more charismatic/influential/rich than others at a time of revolution.
As a result of this perfect wisdom, reason, intelligence and sheer common sense are now shot down in flames by the worship of the Right.
Ah well - at least I'm out of range over here.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?
