CS,
CS writes:
"Energy" doesn't form bonds, and its not a thing or stuff.
Yes it does. An example would be with covalent bonds, where charged particles, namely electrons are being shared betwen two different elements to form molecules. You can even say the same thing for hydrogen bonds which is how h20 molecules are held together via electromagnetism which is a form of energy.
CS writes:
And if you stood next to some radioactive matter, it would do all kinds of work to your body.
Point taken.
CS writes:
No, they are molecules and that's matter.
I don't see anything in brownian motion that says it's specifically about random motion of molecules. Although it does direct you to particle physics talking about atomic particles. It does talk about random movement within water molecules but it does not specifically say it's random motion of water molecules either. Can you site a source for this idea you assert? I am knew to this concept sorry.....
CS writes:
An explanation would've been nice.
I already gave it and you responded to my reason so I simply disagreed.
CS writes:
Swing... and a miss. You're just exposing your misunderstanding of energy and potential energy. Just look it up.
Point taken.
CS writes:

Actually energy can be a force. Read the first line of that link you provided.

In physics, the concept of force is used to describe an influence which causes a free massive body to undergo an acceleration.
Acceleration does attribute to kinetic, gravitational, and even electromagnetic energy. A rock falling is a perfect example of how force is in fact a form of energy. I've realized so much from all this discussion with you, DA, cavediver and Rahvin. What have you learned?

Actually energy can be a force.
The world does not contain a big enough face or a big enough palm.
For one thing, energy and force are measured in incompatible units. You might as well argue that "speed can be a distance".
Read the first line of that link you provided.
Read it yourself. Note that it does not equate force with energy.
Acceleration does attribute to kinetic, gravitational, and even electromagnetic energy.
That's not even English, much less physics.
A rock falling is a perfect example of how force is in fact a form of energy.
Why would anyone even think that?

Dr Adequate,
Force is acceleration. Acceleration is momentum. Momentum is potential energy. Potential energy is energy.
Example, A rock falls to earth and crashes.

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen."

Force is acceleration. Acceleration is momentum. Momentum is potentlial energy. Potential energy is energy.
They are all interrelated properties which describe our universe. They are all not the same. If they were, why would use differnt terminology for them.
Example, A rock falls to earth and crashes.
I am not seeing how your example above proves your premise.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous. - Carl Sagan, The Fine Art of Baloney Detection

Oh, I read you as saying that one bit of evergy would form a bond with another bit of energy.
Covalent bonds are on a much larger scale (i.e. the sharing of valence electrons) and saying that "energy forms them" is a poor way to phrase it.
CS writes:
And if you stood next to some radioactive matter, it would do all kinds of work to your body.
Point taken.
Are you beginning to see how matter can do work?
CS writes:
No, they are molecules and that's matter.
I don't see anything in brownian motion that says it's specifically about random motion of molecules.
On the Brownian Motion page you will find a link to 'Random Walk' and under the Applications section you will find the line:
quote:
In physics, random walks are used as simplified models of physical Brownian motion and the random movement of molecules in liquids and gases.
When I was in college we used computers to simulate random walks by having the body rotate a random number of degrees and then follow a straight path for a random distance, then rotate a random number of degrees and then follow a straight path for a random distance over and over again.
Take a look at this gif:
Inside a glass of water, the molecules are randomly bouncing around like that. It is not "inanimate".
Actually energy can be a force.
Not really.
A force is caused by the acceleration of mass. Energy is not some 'thing' that can accelerate and cause a force.
In Message 123 you wrote:
quote:
Force is acceleration. Acceleration is momentum. Momentum is potential energy. Potential energy is energy.
Acceleration is not momentum. Momentum is mass X velocity. It is not potential energy, but kinetic.
Acceleration does attribute to kinetic, gravitational, and even electromagnetic energy. A rock falling is a perfect example of how force is in fact a form of energy.
I think you're thinking along the lines of energy transfer, whereby potential energy gets transfered into kinetic energy when the rock falls. But a force being a "form of energy" is a poor way to phrase it.
I've realized so much from all this discussion with you, DA, cavediver and Rahvin. What have you learned?
Not too much. I learned all this stuff, like, 10 years ago. I'm just trying to explain it to you. I did learn to be careful when discussing both mass and matter to not mix them up in my head while I'm typing.
ABE:
How old are you?
I'm 28.

Temporary Closure
I have to concur with Sasuke that Where did the matter and energy come from? is the proper thread for the current discussion. I'm temporarily closing this thread to allow this novel idea to take hold in people's minds.

Thread Reopened
I don't think the actual topic of this thread has been under discussion for some time, but it was originally about how the solar system formed from the Big Bang.

Has no one given thought to how time isn't same from every point?
Special relativity may shed light on this.
I'd also like to ask why we assume time is linear in all aspects? To say "before the big bang" may indeed to be a stupid thing to say.

Force is acceleration.
Wrong.
Units of force: kg m s-2
Units of acceleration: m s-2
Acceleration is momentum.
Wrong.
Units of acceleration: m s-2
Units of momentum: m s-1
Momentum is potential energy.
Wrong.
Units of momentum: kg m s-1
Units of energy: kg m2 s-2
Potential energy is energy.
Right.
Apart from that, you might as well be sitting there saying: "Distance is speed. Speed is time. Time is acceleration" for all the sense you're making.
Example, A rock falls to earth and crashes.
What is that meant to be an example of? A non sequitur?

Dr Adequate-DA-CS,
again point taken. I suppose that Force is acceleration(mass)(speed^-2). Thanks for pointing out that I was leaving out some variables. I suppose I didn't have a complete picture of force however now I do.

I suppose that Force is acceleration(mass)(speed^2).
Umm no. May I suggest you pick up an entry level physics book and read it.

Dr jones,
Maybe the real reason why I am not catching on is because abbreviations/varibles are being used. Could you explain it like this... F=M? A? What is M and what is A?

Force = mass x acceleration.
Perphaps until you get a grasp of high school level physics the big and bang and cosmology forum might be beyond you.

You know Sasuke, it would have only taken you two seconds to google the formula for f=ma (force=mass times acceleration).
I am not trying to discourage you but I think you are relying too much on people on this forum to do your research for you. If you would put as much effort into researching for yourself in the library and the infinite internet (wikipedia is a good start) as asking junior high level science questions on a high end science forum I think you would find the answers you are looking for.

DrJones,
Yah that's what I thought you ment but how do you attribute for speed? I mean aint acceleration really talking about accelerating? Like how fast it is accelerating.. 0-60 in 3 seconds for example.. Shouldn't you attribute this into the equation also? That is why I said F=ams^-2 from dradequates example..
