...to let you all know that I'll be heading home very soon. I've had a fair amount of time to post lately, so you may have forgotten I'm still in the desert. Anyway, back to the *other* Gulf I go. It's about damn time.

I was worrying about you when I read, this week in the NYTimes, that many rotations were being extended to bring troop strengths up to 150,000.

Aww, shucks.
That definitely has affected some of the units here, but they're all Army. The Air Force tends to avoid those surprise two-month extensions that the Army is so fond of, and our tours are much shorter to start with (nominally 120 vs 365 days).
My being out 5+ months is actually around the 90th percentile for deployment length in the AF, but I will be leaving exactly when I expected all along: just in time to tidy up the house, kick back for a couple of weeks, and have family stop by on Christmas day.
Life really is pretty good....
