Okay, I didn't want to have to do it, but I will not enter an argument unarmed and as I have been out of Christianity for over 20 years now, I will have to brush up on my bible skills. So, which version of the bible is most commonly used around here so I don't use the "wrong" version? I do have an online link that lists links to pretty much every bible version there is, but I'm not reading all of them! The one I know the best because it was used in my church (back when I was in junior high) is the KJV. Thanks for answers.
Melissa

Most 'hard-core' creationist seem to hold that the King James Bible is the purest form of God's holy word.
The full text is available on-line here
Pure unadulterated speculation I think this is probably because it is less intelligable and therefore easier to work into whatever form backs their ideas.

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever use NIV. NIV horribly mangles the original hebrew, and fixes contradictions between books/chapters/etc. If you want to see the hebrew, you can use the online Blue Letter Bible, and click on the "C" next to a verse. For mainstream bibles, New Living is especially good - they often remark on where they've corrected the original text, on contradicting verses, etc, to let the reader decide what they want to believe - instead of covering it up like NIV does.

In my opinion, you can't beat Davar and Online Bible-- just look at all those yummy texts!

Why not make up your own 'New Testament', choose from over one hundred early christian texts including many apocryphal gospels of the life of Jesus.

awinkisas. I have been trying for sometime now to get ahold of the Skeptics Annotated Bible but have been unable to get through. Do you have the same situation?

I've no problems getting to the site. I even tried the link in my last post and it loaded fine. The url is Skeptic's Annotated Bible / Quran / Book of Mormon
If you still can't get through here's a mirror:

Interesting, isn't it?
I've now found two dodgy "contradiction/errancy fixing" translations in the NIV:
Genesis 2:19 - uses pluperfect to try to avoid the obvious contradiction between the two creation stories.
Luke 2:1 - inserts the word "Roman" to avoid the demonstrably false (if taken literally) statement that all the world was to be taxed.

I think the good men and women of the NIV are merely carrying on the centuries old tradition of re-writing, and fixing, religous works...

Your welcome, although I don't know if God would bless me if he was around to read it. I've gotten a lot of use out of it (not to mention a few laughs) and I hope that others find it as enlightening.
There is another site which attempts to refute the Skeptic's Annotated Bible at The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained - Examples
However they don't give it away for free. It makes you wonder about their motives ...

Definitely go with the AKJ 1611 Version... all others are 'tainted'.

Joralex How do the words of a perfect God get tainted? It would seem to me that if one were to actually need to seriously understand the Bible they should go through the trouble of accessing the original text and learn the original languages used THEN consider the context of the times and the rest of the societies interacting with them.Barring that I guess we must have "faith" in human beings and their translation.
Are there sources of bible scholars willing to give us in depth research into the actual translation system used to bring proper rendering of the original languages into modern english? I would be happy with even conflicting systems if it gives one a better picture of the actual events that occured.
