And as I've said a million times already, if it is not protected and we are confronted with a demand to honor gay marriage we will have to be punished for refusing.

That isn't a very Christian attitude.

That's all true as long as there is no conflict between the human laws and God's law.
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

... So again, Christians ... Again, the fallacy of the part for the whole -- you mean the sect of fundamentalist Christians, not all Christians, especially as you only speak for yourself.
... will no longer be able to run wedding businesses ... That is one choice that you can make.
... if we are put in the position of being required to endorse gay marriage in any other way we will have to take the punishment. Or any other law against discrimination ... That is another choice you can make, as can any person who disagrees with any law. Another choice is to protest the law and organize to change it. Notice how this was in fact done to overcome laws of discrimination, such as women's right to vote, civil rights and gay rights. Notice how you are advocating going backwards while the majority of the people have already moved forward, including many Christians. People who think it is proper to treat everyone equally, that nobody has a privilege to discriminate and treat one person differently from another. That's means you're not so much being conservative, as being regressive bigot. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. Interestingly enough, I was raised in a fundamentalist denomination (SDA) that placed many restrictions on behavior. Some of these restrictions severely compromised the ability to hold certain jobs. The solution, at least in our house, was simple: We can't take those jobs. Of course Adventists have, or had, a commitment to religious liberty and the separation of church and state. We understood that our commitments to our beliefs should inconvenience us, not the rest of society. This was enlightened self-interest, as it was taken as given that if our beliefs intruded into civil society, civil society would take an interest in our beliefs, and not in a good way. The Adventist understanding of the text in Acts was that we should choose to obey God, but that the consequences of that choice would be borne by us, not the rest of society. I think it's cute how fundagelitards are fond of carrying on about various apostles allegedly being crucified upside down and so on because of their faith, but turn into whiny little snots about suffering minor civil penalties for trying to create a theocracy where public services would soon be segregated by religious belief, orientation, etc. at the expense of others. You, Faith, are the sort of person from whom the Constitution was meant to protect your fellow citizens. Edited by Capt Stormfield, : typo

... a demand to honor gay marriage... So when a patient tells me that they prayed that the procedure I am about to perform would go well, how should I respond? If I proceed, and things go well, I will have used my technical and artistic skills to support a belief I find stupid, offensive, and dangerous. Should I hang a "No Christians" sign in my reception area so that I don't have to "honor" their prayers?

Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. The fact that god is just a meme implanted in minds of men, an extension of his ego. Technically, you are obeying men who are using their god meme as an authority. Edited by Porosity, : spelling

Yes and if society wants to make that definition law, and perhaps that will happen the way things are going, then religious freedom wiil be kaput for good.

...then religious freedom wiil be kaput for good. Yeah, bummer. Whatever will we do with all the "No Colored or Queers" signs? I guess you miss the good old days when a person could make their soda fountain conform to their most deeply held values.

The only conflict is the one that you're creating. If the requirements of your job offend your conscirnce, get a different job. By staying in a job or business that requires you to choose between God's law and the law of his agents, you're flouting the principle that Paul talked about. You're slapping God's agents in the face.

As a Christian it is your prime directive to feed the poor, heal the sick, and comfort the distressed. Don't even start with me about actions mean nothing and faith means everything. Perhaps it is intentions that mean everything. Intentions when good mean actions, intentions when lazy lead to cheap grace, or worse - prosperity gospel, which is 100% anti anything Jesus, Mohamed, Krishna, Bhudda, Laotse, The White Buffalo Calf Woman, etc. ever said. You know how much I hate responding to your posts but faith without *actual* good intentions is the highway to hell. Any action against any person for the purported "crime" of love is evil incarnate. Either get your shit together or face the consequences of your actions or inactions. Hit it AC/DC. Edited by anglagard, : No reason given. How can anything dishonor the all powerful all knowing creator of the universe?

I expect to face the consequences. Hasn't that been clear?
