Re: DT on Testing ID
I second the vote for DT's pair of posts. Great writing, man.

I am also compelled to support NosyNed's nomination of DT's posts #25 and #26. Not only were they well written and (for me) very instructive, but also, the quote . . .
quote:
Oh dear. Your grasp of this seems to lack opposable thumbs.
. . .was alone worth the price of admission.
Namaste'

Re: DT on Testing ID
Gosh...
Thanks chaps!
Just so you know, though, these posts haven't appeared ex nihilo and de novo ... they have evolved! I keep having to say the same things -- one way or another, one example or another -- to each creationist who raises ID, and I'm now getting sick of re-writing the ideas each time! (It's mostly been over at the IIDB, so you are the beneficiaries (if you can call it that) of considerable cumulative selection of mutations...
I must do these up properly and get them on my website, to save time if nothing else!
So, if any of you have any comments / amendments on these posts, please do email me with them .
Cheers folks, DT
PS Oh yeah, and for the sake of honesty (lest I be found out ), the 'lacks opposable thumbs' line isn't mine, but it's been filed away for so long in my mind that I can't remember where it originated. Sorry!

It's MINE now and I'm starting to forget the source already.

Off of the primary topic there, but the side topic of "Ocean Basin Geology" has probably gathered more discussion than the original topic. Again, lots of links, this time concerning ocean basin geology.

The actual number of times you have to shuffle a deck, in order to get absolute randomness is 7 times!

JIM nominates me:
quote:
The actual number of times you have to shuffle a deck, in order to get absolute randomness is 7 times!
That depends on how you shuffle it. Perfect riffle shuffles, alas, impose a secondary order upon the deck. If you know how the deck started off and you execute perfect riffle shuffles, you will know the exact order of the deck.
If I recall correctly, if you execute 8 perfect riffle shuffles, you restore the original order of the deck.
And thanks.

Stephen Fretwell (aka Stephen ben Yeshua) said:

But, evolutionary biologists do not seem to be interested, as they ought to be, in the objective, Bayesian, plausibility of the God as creator idea. They thus neglect all three of the standards I was taught made one a true scientist.
Edge replied:

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps they considered the plausible alternative and then rejected it long ago for lack of evidence? It seems to me that you are committing an error common to YECs in that they think history began with them.
There's an old and/or a new topic somewhere in this one.

Although this should probably be in January POM, Moose apparently hasn't recovered from the New Years Eve festivities enough to initiate it. Thank you Mike! An excellent opening post and a potentially very interesting thread.
