Re: Fred Fielding
This report from the BBC gives much more information about the research done by the U of IL students. It's the best article on this subject I've seen since DT apparently took ill.
Surely some of you folks have a better memory than I do of the Watergate scandal. Can anyone think of a reason why Fielding might not be DT?
Can anyone find anything at all about the current health status of Fred Fielding?
EDIT: Finally found a link to the U of IL study. Check it out.

W. Mark Felt
Nothing available by link, but MSNBC-TV is reporting that, according to Vanity Fair, W. Mark Felt has claimed that he was Deep Throat.
AbE: Something available online now.

If Watergate Happened Now
Don't miss Jonathan Alter's Newsweek piece If Watergate Happened Now. You'll get a good laugh out of it; that is of course unless you get a good cry.
Love the part about the Fox News version of the story: Assault on the Presidency.

Huh?
First sentence, before the parody starts:
From a distance, Watergate seems like a partisan affair.
Who has been trying to spin Watergate as a partisan event?

Re: Huh?
I think he means the distance of time, to those who don't remember the scandal. Felt has been vilified by the right-wing since his identity was revealed, and that might lead some younger people to believe that the investigation and calls for impeachment were themselves partisan.
That sentence had me scratching my head for a moment, too. I think it should have been worded better.

It figures.

Interesting. I haven't been keeping up with this in the news. Are they saying that loyalty to a non-Clinton presidency requires silence when the law is broken?

Re: It figures.
Pretty much. The loudest voices have been ex-cons and junkies like Charles Colson, G. Gordon Liddy and Rush Limbaugh. They say the appropriate thing for Felt to have done would have been to resign.
The fact that wingnuts like these have been getting so much airtime on the cable news shows lately is what likely provided the impetus for Alter's piece.

Re: It figures.
Would I be considered naive, then, to expect Rush and company to soon be lamenting what a sordid partisan attack the entire White Water/Lewinsky/Clinton impeachment fiasco was?
Would any of our resident conservatives like to comment on this?

Yes you would, but you knew that. It might be a bit harder for them to justify Whitewater in light of their comments about Felt, but the Lewinsky scandal was about morals. Clinton broke God's law, and everybody knows that God's law is higher than man's law.
Remember, ex-cons and junkies like these have to justify themselves only to non-thinking christian wingnuts.
