Re: Faith in the abstinance only thread
Faith, I've seen several posts of yours that I halfway wanted to nominate for POTM, but I don't think I've ever done it because I almost always disagree with you. I would echo the post nominated here, though, as it is indeed well-stated and hard to attack.
I would say that you are among the best on this forum at stating your views clearly and effectively, even though you're seldom correct.

Well, thank you, berberry, that is a very nice compliment in spite of your coming from such a totally biased and wrongheaded point of view.

Seconded. Faith is a good thinker and an excellent writer. Shame she's on the wrong side.

Would not "especially considering" instead of "in spite of" not be a better way of phrasing it. Well done the opposition for the nominations. Very "Spitfire pilots toast the endeavours of a downed (looking at it from your perspective) Me109 pilot back at Biggin Hill"
Oh yeah..seconded again

Re: Faith in the abstinance only thread
You're right Iano. Very sloppy there.
I'm kind of blown away by the positive reception myself. But it is nicely done. Holding their line while being generous. Thanks to you for that too Parasomnium.
I appreciate it. I really thought I was going to get a barrage of objections.
Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Thread: Common Ground?: Deep Faith and Deep Science
Forum: Misc. Topics in Crea-Evo
iano provides an exceptionally well-written, cogent and spot-on-target response to my OP on that thread. Of the many possible directions/topics that thread could have entailed, he hits dead center on one of the key issues. Well done, iano.

Re: iano in Common Ground thread
Thank you Quetzal. Hopefully the Deep Faith viewpoint won't be viewed as an exercise in pessimism - but one of hope. The same kind of hope that Deep Science may have that its efforts will contribute to the avoidance of mans ultimate destruction. And that our separation arises out of the kinds of ultimate destruction we view as requiring avoidance.

General Praise for the Faith/Holmes subthread
From my first two POTM nominations a number of exchanges have happened between Faith and Holmes that seem to be the exact idea of how a good debate should unfold. Both are at polar extremes of personal belief about sexuality yet are continually making progress in the discussion.
I am going to make a suggestion, assuming that the discussion continues in its constructive manner, that it be copied into somewhere else on the site to use as a good example of how evo/creo, liberal/conservative debate can take place and yet NOT degrade on the nonsense and repetition that many other thread do.
Although there may never actually be a resolution that they can both agree on, the act of the debate itself is a wonder to watch so far.
P.S. Also, if the mods could somehow facilitate it such that Homes and Faith could continue their discussion past the 300 post "limit" I think it would only server to better the board as a whole.

Of course, biblical creationists are committed to belief in God's written Word, the Bible, which forbids bearing false witness; --AIG (lest they forget)

snes's tv is off.
message 92 atheism is a belief.
best analogy ever.
Calling atheism a belief is like calling off a TV channel
though i have to say i like having my tv off because it gives me headaches...

I must disagree. The best analogy is
Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.
{Not a proper POTM type message, albeit a minor one. Take the above comment to the cited topic itself. Please, no replies to this message. - Adminnemooseus}

I don't understand why the religious right wants to do this. If marriage becomes a constitutional issues, then marriage becomes an entirely civil institution.
"Now you're talking about reason, which clearly has nothing to do with such issues. The religious right wants to maintain as much control of the government as possible. They've had it good for a long time here in North America. They don't want to lose it.
Of course, once homosexual marriages are allowed, then they've lost, anyway. I'm not sure what they've lost and what harm it's going to do them, but they'll have lost. "
He really nails the problem with politics today. People don't even care about or understand the issues anymore, they just want their side to win.
