Re: True Church...lets meet the Boss!
why would you want to run over six miles?... My wife tells me it's a psycohological defect, possibly from a fall in my youth or something similar. I watched a video recently called "Running on the Sun" about the 1999 Badwater 135, in which 40 participants raced 135 miles across death valley and up Mt. Whitney in July. Temperatures hit 130 (that's 54.something in Germany, but you knew that), and people threw up, collapsed, hallucinated, etc. My wife and I both got wide eyes at the video. She thought, "Surely this will discourage my husband's foolishness." I thought, "I can do that. I'll bet I can make it a 50th birthday celebration." It might be a birth defect. edit: That's my wife and I discussing it in my avatar. [This message has been edited by truthlover, 02-27-2004] [This message has been edited by truthlover, 02-27-2004]

The high-tech workout clothes really do help with that kind of thing. Why thank you. I got my first hi-tech t-shirt, but I ordered it over the internet and overestimated the effect the running was having on my shirt size, so it's too tight. I've worn it under a bigger shirt on cold days, and it does seem to help, but I haven't put it to a good distance test yet.

The Bride does more than be religious!
I used to be into long distance cycling. I started one year riding 5-10 miles and then we saw a video about Ride The Rockies, a 438 mile tour. We went to the meeting and saw that it was full of "old farts" that were over 50. We were under 30 at the time and thought that we would surely dust these guys. So we trained with 80 mile weeks and some hill climbing. At last it was June and time to roll! We started out OK, but we soon found that those "old farts" could literally ride at 10 m.p.h. for 10 hours straight while we blew past them at 15 m.p.h. average and then burned out in 5 hours! Needless to say, this is when I first respected the wisdom of age.

Re: my question
M. You comment,
Besides the fact that you have been shown where you are in error Not by anyone I have any reason to trust as an authority, nor by any evidence, nor by any inspired or inspiring art, nor by any report of history. All I have is the opinions (apparently dogmatic) of persons who have nothing to say except unsupported (or missupported) claims. Who tell me not to trust authorities, such as themselves. They ignore what I say, and claim that I say things I deny. There are fools, looking for reasons to hide from the truth, and me, who will listen to these persons, but they are not me. I'll take my hundreds of citations for successful research every year, my many grandchildren, those who love me, my good health, my well-grounded hope of being someday recognized by thousands as a great scientist, over the silly opinions of persons who cannot adequately define science, much less do it. People with such opinions abound in the life of every truly great scientist. It's a dirty job, but I guess somebody has to do it. Thanks for volunteering for the job. Stephen

Yes Stephen, you are clearly a legend in your own mind..it seems there is a lot of open space in there in which to roam...you could walk for years and never trip over a logical thought.

Re: my question
M. Is it fair to conclude that you have won an argument, when your opposition is reduced to insults and sarcasm? S.

I could pull out many of your insults from other threads that YOU have initiated. So, to answer your question
quote: Is it fair to conclude that you have won an argument, when your opposition is reduced to insults and sarcasm?
Fine, I win.

closing thread
I can't remember the last message in this thread that was on topic, and I think Stephen and Mammuthus have had plenty of time to discuss each others' qualities, soooo...rather than leave this thread out here tempting either of them, I'm going to close it.
