We all know people back then never had premarital sex, masturbated, kissed, or enjoy sex as recreational activity. Hell, even Lucy and Ricky slept in seperate beds for crying out loud!

Hell, even Lucy and Ricky slept in seperate beds for crying out loud! Considering that fact, what does the appearance of Little Ricky say about his dad's anatomy? Those who would sacrifice an essential liberty for a temporary security will lose both, and deserve neither. -- Benjamin Franklin

That was one of my favorite shows growing up and still is one of my favorite shows, and I certainly never got that part. So, what did Little Ricky say about his dad's anatomy?

Great find!
Nowadays, you can get such a wife from Asia or East Europe.
"Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him."
My, how things have changed!

What? No blowjobs? Where are the blowjobs? People were so naive back then. no, they just couldn't SAY things like "blowjob." you have to read between the lines.
you figure out what comes next. afterall, a good wife always knows her place. which is to say, "on her knees." i'm telling you.

You know, I had a feeling it might be a fake, because some of the text just seemed a little too outrageous. I should have checked it out first.
The question here is whether the piece quoted above really came from a home economics textbook. Is it real, or is it yet another of those "look how far we've come" fabrications? Either way, it's pretty funny.
Whether the piece at hand is a genuine excerpt from a yet-undiscovered home economics textbook, it is nonetheless a relatively accurate reflection of the mainstream vision of a woman's appointed role in post-war America, as evinced by such educational training films as "The Home Economics Story" (made familiar to a whole new generation of youngsters through its spoofing on the popular Mystery Science Theater 3000 program). It was seen as only right and proper that the wife should keep the home running smoothly, making it a quiet haven of peace and joy for her husband, the breadwinner. Well these days are gone. The woman (both parents) almost has to work now, just so we can survive. That's what pisses me off.I wish I could stay home and raise my kids, and so does my wife.

For a more accurate view of the times, look at The Grapes of Wrath, not The Waltons. There was never any innocence to lose. (Watch me struggle not to mention "the Fall".) So are you suggesting that humans have never been innocent? I used to like reading the Life Magazines from the forties--particularly from the wartime and before! (MovieTone News was similar)
The psychology of how advertising and editorials gave their message to the public was truly different than it is today. Remember being embarrassed because the laundry had "tattletale gray" in it?

Phat writes: So are you suggesting that humans have never been innocent? Yes. There have always been some individuals who were "innocent" - i.e. ignorant - of a lot of what goes on. But the human race as a whole has never been "innocent".
Remember being embarrassed because the laundry had "tattletale gray" in it? That's one thing that has not changed much. In advertising, all women seem to care about is having brighter laundry, killing more germs and feeling "fresh". Even the female CEO only cares about not letting a headache ruin her day. Innocence in advertising or public media isn't the same as societal innocence.
The Victorians are known for their prudishness and innocence...but in reality the Victorian era produced some of the raunchiest porn out there. The innocence is but a public veneer.
