Churches prohibited lending at interest until about the 1600's, based on verses in Ezekiel, IIRC. My great-great-grandfather, Ebenezer Dickey Junkin, D.D., was a well-respected clergyman (Presbyterian) and college president who wrote, among other things, a catechism "Particularly for the Instruction of Coloured Persons," where those coloured persons were reminded of many Bible verses which instructed them to be obedient and submissive to their masters. {A catechism was a FAQ on Bible matters widely used in the past for teaching.} The other stuff is, indeed, not scriptural. But the religious leaders of the appropriate times and places did, indeed, teach such.
Your grandbabies are doomed.
Google "usury" and "church" for starters on interest.
