Zhimbo and I are considering springing for a Tempurpedic mattress next year and were wondering if anyone out there had any experience with them.

Hi Schraf,
I have no experience with sleeping on such a mattress (although I once tried one for a few minutes), but I have tried sleeping with a pillow of the same material. I must say that I didn't like it for two reasons: 1. My head sank into it too deeply, covering my ears, which I find uncomfortable; 2. After a while, it became too warm for my liking.
Not for me, this stuff, however much I appreciate the fact that it's the result of modern technology and all that.

We were going to avoid the pillows, actually.
What I find extremely attractive is the notion that it does not transfer motion. Also that it is supposed to reduce pressure points and having to shift positions all the time.
All of these are problems for my sleep.

A cheaper solution would be to tell Zhimbo to lie still.
Also that it is supposed to reduce pressure points and having to shift positions all the time.

I agree that is sounds very nice and it might work very well, but perhaps you should ask to be allowed to try it for a week or so, before you buy it.

Oh, they let you sleep on it for something like 120 nights, so it's quite risk-free.

Great! You'll be able to have more experience with it than anybody here can put in words.
Sweet dreams.

I have one
Expect to pay about $1,000 more than a regular mattress. They're hot as Para noted. It took me few months to get used to, my muscles were sore as I adjusted. I sometimes have problems with my arms falling asleep. IMO, it is not THAT much better than a regular mattress as far as comfort.
The two best things about them is that they last forever and they don't transfer motion.
I have a pillow too, which I like. I didn't have the problem with my ears getting covered.

Re: I have one
I have a pocket-sprung matress, I find it very comfortable and that it transfers little movement and they're notably cheaper - not that an extra $1000 is worth quibbling over for better sleep.

The same material, generically called 'memory foam' can be bought as a mattress topper for a lot less money that a full mattress. We bought a 1-1/2" Cal king size topper for our standard coil spring mattress and it added so much comfort that we hate to get out of bed in the morning. And that's not because we don't want to geo to work - we're both retired. That topper cost only $60.00 plus $3.00 S&H from Overstock.com. At that price it also came with two memory foam pillows. I use one and like it fine, but my wife doesn't like hers. We have a 3" memory foam topper we use on our van bed, which was way too hard for comfort, but is now also extremely comfortable. You might want to try this approach to see if you really like it. Could save you some money. You should also check out that 120 day free trial to see if you have to pay any shipping fees or even a restocking fee, and see if the internet has any horror stories of people trying to return the item.
Of course, a topper might not help with a restless bed mate. I suggest you find some way to to tire him/her out to the point of exhaustion before you actually go to sleep so he/she won't be so restless.
By the way, I found out about that super price on a great site called dealnews.com. I check that site daily and have gotten a lot of great bargains.
May you languor in the lap of lascivious luxury with whatever way you chose to go.

My biggest perception is that it's an unusual feeling when you move on the bed. Because it is somewhat like a non-Newtonian fluid, it suddenly stops any motion and then you slowly sink into it. When you press on it in order to get leverage, there's that moment of "is it moving or not?" feeling. For a spring mattress, you know it's going to move and that motion is consistent in its profile. Same thing for a waterbed. But with a memory-foam mattress, there's this feeling that it's there and not there all at the same time.

That only works when the snoring fails to register on the Richter scale
