Re: 12 dsciples
Hey Brad,
As you have probably gathered from my other messages I don't think that Jesus or the diciples existed in history at all. I hope that seaching all this sort of stuff hasn't affected your faith in God, cause it hasn't for me it has only made me search harder and become closer to God. I'm willing to listen to any weird assumption about christianity cause as it says over and over in the Old and New Testament, it is a mystery to be revealed in the last times through the scriptures.
I will also look into Timothy Freke. I also luv talking about this sort of stuff.

Gnostic and other time lines from ancient history.
Any hard evidence that Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great etc really exited.
Manuscripts referring to them dating centuries after they passed away? No doubt the Persian , Greek and Roman empires did excists, but how much about their leaders , heroes, history etc are true?
Refer also to
http://www.revisedhistory.org/...ation-historical-dating.htm
More New Testament manuscripts dating too within decades of the original writers might prove more accurate and reliable than other ancient manuscripts and figures in history.

Re: Gnostic and other time lines from ancient history.
I don't know (and can't be arsed to check ) about Alexander the Great but there is evidence for Julius Caesar in the forms of coins bearing his image and sometimes giving details of his activities - such as those shown here. One of them commemorates him being declared dictator for life.

Confused ? You will be...

Mark 1:1. "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God."
Hello RustyShackelford,
I don't intend, at this point, to argue the claim made here one way or the other. But, as it happens, the example you provided above is one of those places where a bit more care should be taken.
Although the phrase, "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." is found in the majority of our extant manuscripts, there are a number of early important witnesses that lack the (possibly appended) phrase, "the Son of God ".
Early manuscript witnesses that lack the "the Son of God " phrase include Sinaiticus, O, 28c, 1555, syr(p) arm geo, and Origen (both in his commentary written in Alexandria and in Contra Celsum).
As Bart Ehrman remarks, ". . . this is not a confluence of witnesses to be trifled with."
The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture, Bart D.Ehrman, pgg. 72-73, Oxford Univ. Press, New York/Oxford, 1993.
So, as far as your example goes, the "Son of God" inclusion in Mark 1:1 holds somewhat less than a 100% guarantee of being original.
IMO, and based on this same type of study regarding much of the early manuscript evidence, there is a good argument to be made for the foremost adoptionist position; (i.e., that Jesus was originally thought to have been adopted as the Son of God at his baptism).
Just thought I'd mention it,
Amlodhi

Hi Jar,
Thanks for the note. I've been away for awhile and wasn't checking the posting date information.
Nevertheless, my post doesn't really require an answer and it won't hurt to have an alternate perspective available to the lurking reader.
Thanks again,
Amlodhi
