Yeah....right!
Except for the fact that the Mosque was probably the most sturdily built structure in that area.

Having fun in the South....Ross Ice Shelf at McMurdo, Antarctica

Mosque's structure and the earth's
The mosque stands because it is strongly build, simple engineering, nothing miraculous.
The waves happened due to the geophysics of the earth(is that redundant ? ). Nothing miraculous.
The earthquakes have nothing to do with God. If they do then so does that mosque.

Re: Ahem!
quote:
1. Your figures are wrong. The US has pledged 350 million in GOVERNMENT CASH ALONE
Yes and? The British government has undertaken to match public donations and last night Blair was predicting that this would run to hundreds of millions as well. The firgures of other states keep rising to the 500-600 million odd by states much smaller than the US.
quote:
2. Private and institutional US funds, manpower, equipment will likely dwarf the 350 million from our government. Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse organization, a fundamentalist Christian group has pledged $6 million, a helicopter and personnel to the disaster so far and that will likely increase.
Its good to see Christians doing something useful for c hange, instead of praying.
quote:
Franklin, Evangelist Billy Graham's son, was on Fox's Hannity and Colmbs program and though he spoke of the Biblical latter day wrath judgements that I and others have aluded to here, he still extends compassion and relief to the victims of these tradgedies.
Is this somwhow especially worthy?
quote:
What other kindreds, religions or nations would do this for people, many of whom ridicule, criticize and despise us in the public arena? This is Christianity at work as Christ taught it should be.
Umm, all of them? Do you not remember all the condolences and support the US received from Muslim and other states, from religious institutions et al, after Sept 11th?
quote:
3. The government of US has deployed BILLIONS worth of equipment, manpower and goods into the operation, including ships and aircraft, trucks and other vehicles, the greatest operation in the region since the Viet Nam War. One of our big expensive planes crash landed, hitting a herd of cattle in landing, showing the danger these relief workers are in.
Thats all very worthy. How does this amount to being the major enactor of relief operations? Both India and Indonesia have armies of their own half a million strong, and thus the Indians turned down an offer to be aided by 100 Gurkhas.
quote:
3. Our people are risking their lives and extending all this relief to these nations when, in fact, little or nothing was received from other nations when our twin towers were destroyed and when hurricane disaster hit our shores.
What the fuck does this have to do ewith anything apart from your persecution complex? The Twin Towers example is totally irrelevant and frankly tasteless - why should anyone see an act of war in the same way as a natural disaster?
quote:
Thousands of Indonesian Muslims, in fact, took to the streets dancing and rejoicing at the calamity of the American infidels.
Of course they did. And thousands of Americans expressed great joy at the slaughter of so many Iraqi's. Get a grip - thats what war means.
quote:
Fox Newsmen who were covering the distribution of goods to the Indonesians suffering from the Tsunami disaster, took one photo which showed in the crowd of Indonesians at the scene, a T shirt with a big picture of Ben Ladden on it and a derogatory remark about "American Infidels."
And why is that surprising, or worrying, or horrifying? Americans buy and wear T-shirts that make offensive remarks about Osama Bin Laden. There have even been comdey songs about bombing Baghdad, hypocrite.

Care to qualify that statement?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8

Re: Ahem!

No. But I can expand on it if you like.
The 'net was absolutely swarming with Americans calling for maximum Iraqi casualties, denouncing all Iraqi's as evil terrorists, blaming Iraqi's for 9/11, and as I said, expressing joy at the prospect that Iraqi's would be killed. andf thats quite appart from the rancid opportunist anti-French racism sparked by Rumsfeld. Our media interveiewed many Americans who were quite willing to say exactly these things to camera.
It was utterly disgusting and showed just how empty America's prostestaions of "humanitarian invasion" are. As far as I can tell America is a rancid, hate-filled, homicidal rogue state.
"Wargasm, wargasm one, two, three
Tie a yellow ribbon around the amputee
Masturbate watch it on tv
Crocodile tears for the refugee
Wargasm, wargasm one, two, three
Smutty, bloody pictures, ecstasy
Blue balls waiting impatiently
From alcatraz to lady liberty
Body bags and dropping bombs
The pentagon knows how to turn us on"
- L7
And one more thing: American priorities are abundantly clear when you consider that for all the hoopla about American disatser relief efforts, this amounts to only 2.5 days worth of spending on the illegal occupation force in Iraq. It seems there's always enough money for killing people, but finding money for saving lives is terribly difficult.

My favorite quote of that article was by a rabbi:
How dare one say that 150,000 people that you have never met who are probably more righteous than you, more innocent than you, poor people who just worked hard to feed their kids, how dare you say they
were punished by God? You don't know those people.

Still standing...
I shouldn't be posting this. I am a Muslim and I should've rejoiced the fact that the mosque survived the tsunami.
And this also survived.
It's a cement factory neear the beach and it's still standing. No wonder.
And the 'miraculous survival' stories that begin to turn up... Almost the whole population (3,000 people) living on the island of Simeulue island, near the epicentre, survived the devastating wave. They were just like the ordinary mainland Acehnese, but they have the knowledge of how to detect tsunamis inherited from their ancestors. No miracles, but inherited wisdom.
And that story about a schoolgirl in Thailand[?] that managed to warn people of the incoming waves, because she happened to learn about giant waves in her school some weeks before. Knowledge saves lives.

Re: Ahem!
Hi Buz,
FYI, in message #150 of this thread I listed a bunch of examples of Falwell and Robertson spouting racist, sexist, and anti-intellectual trash.
I listed them as a reply to Tom in this thread, but I cut and pasted them from a different thread. They were from a message that was a reply to you from 9 months ago in which I made the claim of racism, etc. about those two men of God and you asked me to prove it.
Unfortunately, you never replied back then, and I of course don't expect you to go off topic in this thread. Here is the link to the other thread:
http://EvC Forum: What is a True Christian? -->EvC Forum: What is a True Christian?
PS. There was also the matter of Falwell and Robertson blaming 9/11 on feminists and homosexuals that you wanted me to back up, and you said that you would respond, but you never did.

That was an Indonesian commercial flight not an American government plane.

Re: Interesting
Excellent quote, the rabbi was on fire at that moment. I saw that show, and according to the promos MSNBC is running today there'll be more discussion of the same question on Scarborough's show again tonight.
The one who disgusts me most is Jennifer Giroux. That woman is dangerous, and to think she's regarded as a good Christian by so many people. Let's have a look at a sample of what she had to say:
Throughout history and reported early in the Bible, God has always used plagues, floods and natural disasters as a source of punishment.
One can talk about a sad lost generation over there in the disaster going on in Asia.
Can one indeed? And who "lost" them? Christians? Those impoverished people are so filled with sin. They waste all their time trying to find food for themselves and their children; my God, how selfish can people be? God must have been appalled that such people would dare spend all their time seeking food when they should be on their knees praying for forgiveness from such sinfulness!
Look at what we're looking with just in this country with cloning, homosexuality, trying to make homosexual marriages, abortion, lack of God in the schools, taking Jesus out of Christmas. I can't pretend to know the mind of God. But, historically, there have been warnings. And God, who is all-loving and all-good, and he will not be mocked.
So it's our fault? I thought it was their fault. They were "lost", after all.
So let me get this straight: God is angry with Americans, so angry that he deliberately kills tens if not hundreds of thousands of little children in Asia? This sounds more like voodoo than Christianity to me. Shows how little I knew!
Boy, I guess God sure showed us, huh?

Keep America Safe AND Free!

So, what were the almost 800,000 mostly Christian Americans who died of Influenza in 1918 being punished for, I wonder?

Good question, schraf. Let's see, God punishes Asians when he's pissed at Americans, so what can we glean from that? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
I know! The Bolshevik Revolution! That must be it.

Very interesting. Of the tree people interviewed the only follower of Christ was a Jew. The other three, Anne Lotz, Jennifer Giroux and Tim Lahaye simply reflected Christianity at its worst.
Very sad.
