Bin Laden made a new video in which he urged the U.S. populace to convert to Islam in order to hasten peace efforts.
The video, apparantly intercepted by the U.S. Government, calmly informed the United States that they are losing money and prestige while continuing the war and are gaining nothing. My question is, how would switching to Islam help? Islam has nothing going for it that I need. (personally)

Islam's worst enemies are their Islamic brothers. As the prophet Ezekiel says, I believe somewhere in Ezekiel 38 or 39 something like "every man's sword will be turned against his brother," this pertaining to Armageddon when the implicated nations invade Israel. Not only that, but who among us free Americans would trade our freedoms for the intolerancy and brutal totalitarian theocracies of Islamic nations? Thirdly, who among us Christians in the free West would trade our peaceful religion of NT Christianity for a religion which obligates us under penalty of death to commit our lives to a religion which prohibits changing our minds and wanting out of it as Mohammed and his successors prescribed and practiced? BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. The immeasurable present is forever consuming the eternal future and extending the infinite past.

America should do it. Declaring Islam to be the national religion would be so surprising that even Bin Laden would die of shock.

I think that all countries should do away with all religions as a basis of forming foreign and domestic policies.
I say let the secularists run the show. That way, when things mess up, they can no longer blame the religions and/or fundamentalists for the problem...since religion will no longer be a part of governmental behaviors.

My question is, how would switching to Islam help? Islam has nothing going for it that I need. (personally) I'm more interested in knowing when that footage was produced. I happen to believe that it was taken years ago. In this new footage, his gray beard is almost totally black, where in some of his older videos, he's almost full-on gray. Are we supposed to believe that Bin Laden uses "Just for men?" Bin Laden was reported about four or five years ago to be in ailing health. I think there is a decent chance that he is dead, and has been for a number of years, but the Taliban and Al Qaeda are better off having him speculated as still being alive. And this is probably because his bogeyman aura affects the US; plus they probably hope that searching for him will waste resources and money needlessly. Its better for them to have him alive, even if he is dead. Know what I mean? "I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death." -Leonardo da Vinci

So he guessed four years ago that Nicolas Sarkozy would be Président de la République franaise, Brown would be running the UK and also

Yeah, convert en masse to Islam.
Then we can enjoy watching the embittered Christian minority committing acts of terrorism. Ugh. I could tell you what I've read about evolution, the big-bang, super-universes, quantum foam, and all that stuff. Eventually you'd ask a question I can't answer, then I'd have to go look it up. Even If I had the time for that shit, in the end you'd ask a question science hasn't answered yet. So let's save time and skip ahead to "I don't know." -- jhuger

My question is this: IF we have to be there attempting to change the culture of a country from the surrounding cultures...as a model for them to follow...are we succeeding? In other words, are we winning any hearts and/or minds?
I respect our soldiers as mature men of integrity...for the most part...but I am wondering if the impression left on the young men (boys) and women of Iraq will favorably shape foreign relations in the future?

Several comparisons have been attempted, one in particular is to the Allied occupation of Europe after WWII. The biggest difference though is that in the case of Europe, there was a general consensus that the US presence there was to stop an outside intervention as opposed to an internal one. Unfortunately that is not the case in Iraq. In Iraq we are not seen as a barrier to prevent an outside invader but rather we are the outside invader.

So he guessed four years ago that Nicolas Sarkozy would be Président de la République franaise, Brown would be running the UK Have you seen the film yet? I haven't yet, because I didn't think it was released to the public yet. The most I've seen is in still form with only the media sparsely relaying what was said. I've read nothing on Bin Laden mentioning Sarkozy or Brown. If you have a link, I would definitely like to see it.
Bin Laden also refers to recent US headline stories, referring to "the burden of interest-related debts, insane taxes and real estate mortgages; global warming and its woes." Well, if the film is authentic, and he he made such statements, then there would be little doubt that he is still alive. I think we have made, for the most part, a good impression on the Iraqi people. I think its obvious to them at this point that the coalition forces aren't there to take over their land or kill their people. They know what we're doing there, even if many of them are tiring of us being there. I think we also forget that most of the insurgents are not Iraqi, but rather Yemeni, Syrian, Jordanian, etc who blend in with the corwd. The problem is just exacerbated between Iraqi Sunni and Shia battling over centuries long debates. But is stability in Iraq going to be a lasting thing? No, I don't think so. You know how I feel from prophetic viewpoint. It won't get better before it gets monumentally worse.
