when i was in high school, my dance teacher told us about when the whomevers came to call. he was working out and was in tights and a pink silk robe and pointe shoes.
i really couldn't imagine anything funnier.
i'm never quick enough to talk to someone on the spot, but i imagine i'll just start telling them that i haven't figured out my god yet, but when i do, i'll start working on theirs.

Re: JWs
LMAO. Too right. I know of one case, which is probably one of many that hasn't been reported and tallied in that 25,000 figure you quote there. My family are JWs, and so was I from birth to mid-teens. My sister (who at the time had a five year old daughter) got married 'within the truth' to a man who - unknown to us at the time - had sexually abused his younger sister. A year into the marriage, it came out that he'd also sexually abused my niece. What became of it?
Instead of going to the police about it first, my mother advised my sister to go speak to the congregation elders about it. Since elders seem to really love paedophiles or something, they told her not to take it to court, and they advised the husband to move to another congregation. So he could touch up more kids...
My sister went off the rails after this and a few months later was in with the heroin crowd blah blah. Social services got involved, deemed her unfit to have kids (which she was) and so her children were put into foster care. That was nearly 10 years ago now, they're still there to this day.
I'm not blaming the JWs for my sister going off the rails, that's her own damn problem, but what pisses me off is just how eager they are to protect paedophiles. Perhaps because most of them would have to turn themselves in otherwise.

Re: JWs
Hi, Zaw, sorry for your troubles. The saddest thing about the denying of abuse claims is the Governing Body invoking the 'two witnesses' rule. As if any pedophile/rapist will operate in a crowd.

Just a thought, I'd imagine that some would see your appearance on such a list as even more reason to try and convert you. You've made it known that you specifically don't want to be 'saved', and I reckon some evangelist types would see that and think they have to try even harder to 'save' you.
That said, I'd still add my name to the list. In the meantime, I guess I'll just continue to answer the door naked on Sunday mornings.

Haul 'em Away!
No, the list doesn't work that way. Anyone violating the terms by contacting the people on the list and trying to convert them, would face criminal charges for breaking the law--a fine, jail time .
See, the power of the list isn't in the churches' willingness to respect your wishes, but in the government's ability to enforce it.

Wouldn't that violate the first amendment of your constitution?

Re: Haul 'em Away!
Clearly it does not. You see, you can have all the free speech you want, but when you start annoying people or taking their time (which is in essence their life--thus you are taking part of their life) over and over again, then you are taking away from the rights of other people to live happy peaceful lives.
And when that happens, the government steps in. The government will also step in when you want to do any of the following:
-smoke
-drink
-view porn
-carry weapons
-own weapons
-speak out against the government
-be Islamic
-go to college
-not fight an up-hill wars
-paying for medicines
-wanting dental care
...
The list continues... but I don't have time for it.
