Re: One possible good outcome from il Donald winning
Or maybe the Republicans can elect the Donald so that they can impeach him and make the VP President.
But who's going to be the Vice President candidate? They might be even worse than Donald.
Essentially, I think the Donald has been making an effort to campaign against himself. That had been failing, but maybe now things are turning around (Failure is success, and success is failure - Or is that the other way around).

Trump's reluctant republican support...
Probably not anything new to report on Trump as a blustering buffoon again, but the latest CNN headline has Trump attacking his former rivals for not supporting Trump's candidacy.
quote:
Donald Trump on Wednesday said his former Republican primary rivals who have refused to support him in November should be barred from running for public office again.
"They signed a pledge saying they will abide, saying they will back the candidate of the party," Trump said during a campaign appearance in Bangor, Maine, adding, "They broke their word. In my opinion, they should never be allowed to run for public office again because what they did is disgraceful."
Of course, just three months ago, Trump reneged on his own promise to support the candidate who won the primary. In fact so did Cruz and at least one other candidate. Kinda silly to have made those statements a few months ago, and then to take the position Trump now takes.
GOP candidates back off pledge to support nominee | CNN Politics
quote:
"No, I don't anymore," Trump said, when asked by CNN's Anderson Cooper if he continued "to pledge to support whoever the Republican nominee is?"

I found the Mike Pence Hillary exchange from 2009.
The exchange where Hillary "you want to have a cup of tea with Iran's leader" Clinton was agreeing with the approach of Mike Pence, but had to concede that the Pro-negotiation side won, and she must bend toward that position and conduct in her role as Secretary of State.

Here is the quote from the close caption.
quote:
But president Obama won the election. He beat me in a primary in which he put forth a different approach
Hopefully, she is more open to negotiation now.
This election is offering some really terrible choices (if Pence on the ticket means Trump will bend towards him) on foreign policy.
On the GOP side.
I hope Trump's war positions will be the dominant trait.
On the Dem side.
I hope Obama's desire to negotiate has rubbed off on Hillary.

Withholding comment until it’s official, but if claims about Pence as VP are correct, boy was I right about this being Trump’s first mistake, [Ann] Coulter wrote amid a series of tweets on Thursday.
First he allowed himself to be portrayed as a right-wing homophobic nut and then just days later he sold out to the left-wing activists, anyway, Coulter said in reference to an Indiana law protecting businesses that refused to serve gay customers for religious reasons. Pence signed the measure into law but then asked the Legislature to water it down after widespread outrage.

Re: the DuNCe platform committee
I have personally heard several times from members of that cohort that both parties are essentially their enemies. Obviously neither major party will likely survive this cohort in 20 years without major changes for the better.
Probably true. But at least the Democrats have been shown a path for change and there are progressives in the party beyond Sanders (who is obviously not the future for the party).
I don't know what the Republicans are going to do about their future. Move further right? Be content with winning gerrymandered state races?

WASH POST:Trump (behind the scenes) removed policy of arming Ukraine in GOP platform
quote:
Trump campaign guts GOP’s anti-Russia stance on Ukraine
....
The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.
Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade
https://www.washingtonpost.com/...d8-13d06b37f256_story.html
This could very well become a campaign issue as time goes on.
Interesting as voters haven't really engaged the issues much.
Hillary is going after Trump (and Pence) on social issues, which wasn't what attracted Sanders such strong support in diverse states from Hawaii to Alaska.
This could be a fundamentally important issue that draws lots of cross-over support.

I'm a bit worried about all of this.
Last night we had all the people talking about how bad Hillary is instead of talking about how good Trump is ( well, apart from his direct family and some professional golfer). Never heard anything about building that wall. It used to be a battle cry for Trump all over the States; Build that wall...Build that wall.
Nothing about that at the RNC. Something's changed in the meantime.

Sanity?
Maybe Trump will get fewer votes in the election than he did in the primary.

Clinton camp chief peddals Russian agents theory on Trump.
quote:
Clinton Campaign Chief Suggests Russians May Be Trying to Help Trump Win - ABC News
Hillary Clinton's campaign manager Robby Mook said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was pushing for a pro-Russian platform and cited experts who say that Russian state actors were behind the recent leak of Democratic National Committee emails in an attempt to help Trump win.
"Experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, took all these emails, and now are leaking them out through these websites, Mook told ABC’s "This Week" on Sunday. "It's troubling that some experts are now telling us that this was done by the Russians for the purpose of helping Donald Trump.
Mook also suggested that the GOP nominee altered the Republican party platform to make it more attractive to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime.
"It was concerning last week that Donald Trump changed the Republican platform to become what some experts would regard as pro-Russian," Mook said.
Then

The 4 Most Damaging Emails From the DNC WikiLeaks Dump
By ALANA ABRAMSON SHUSHANNAH WALSHE
Wikileaks leaked nearly 20,000 emails on Friday from top Democratic National Committee officials, exchanged from January 2015 through May 2016. Several emails released show that although the DNC was supposed to remain neutral during the primary contest, officials grew increasingly agitated with Bernie Sanders and his campaign, at some points even floating ideas about ways to undermine his candidacy.
The source of the leak has not been revealed, though Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, Robby Mook, said on ABC News' "This Week With George Stephanopoulos" on Sunday that he believes the Russians were instrumental in it.
"Experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, took all these emails and now are leaking them out through these websites," Mook said Sunday. "It's troubling that some experts are now telling us that this was done by the Russians for the purpose of helping Donald Trump."
Strange that the Hillary camp blasts Trump as an agent for Russia, yet all evidence shows that he is just wanting N-E-U-T-R-A-L policy on Russia.
The DNC (and for that matter Hillary) could learn a little something about neutrality. On multiple fronts.
