Fighting The Good Fight
I noticed that you have been posting frequently lately, which sounds like good news regarding your overall health. Are you back on track after Spring and Summer?
And I hope that that dreaded Roundup did not affect you. Too many toxic chemicals in our world today!

Re: Fighting The Good Fight

Well Phat (et al), this has been the year from hell. Started in March, I had been a little tired and out of sorts, but we went to Portland Oregon to see our son and significant other, and that's when it hit me. We stayed at an airBnB and 3 blocks away was a Japanese Botanical Garden, we thought we walk over and see that while the kids were at work. The entrance path zig-zagged up a mountainside. There was no way I would be able to walk up there.
On the way back there was a walk-in clinic, so we walked in and told them I was short of breath. They took an xray:
and sent me to hospital, where I spent a week. They drained 4 litres of fluid from my lung cavity (imagine putting a gallon jug of water in your chest) and tested it for infectious disease (pneumonia etc) but in the end it was all lymphatic fluid ... the cancer, back after 5 years remission, was trying to drown me from the inside.
After a couple days with the kids, once out of hospital, we took the train back to RI. Through Glacier Natl Park. With clear blue skies and 6ft of snow on the ground, it was spectacular. One of my favorite parks.
Back in RI and back in hospital, I emerge a week later with a drain tube in my lower back and a picc line in my arm for chemo infusions, as I am now back on treatment. Weekly visits to infusion center, weekly visits from visiting nurse to drain the chest as I am producing liquid at several cc's a day.
Then in June I apply to join a study at Dana-Farber to test the CAR-T treatment on people with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. We had an interview, and the only restriction against getting in was the chest fluid -- I would be eligible if I could get that stopped. This is big, because it is a possible cure:
quote:
From Recurrence to Remission: Lymphoma Patient is Cancer-Free After CAR T-Cell Therapy
In early 2018, Sandra Linberg received an infusion of CAR T cells only a few months after the therapy was approved for treating her type of cancer. After only a month, her lymphoma had completely disappeared — she was in a complete remission.
Those little warrior cells took care of it, declared Linberg, who has continued to be cancer-free.

The chemo-therapy I was getting did not seem to affect the fluid production, so we switched to an alternative. Then I had high white cell counts and went into hospital again with a slight fever. A week later, no cause for fever found, I was discharged. That night I started throwing up, harshly. So back in hospital where ultrasound showed I had a twisted intestine and had (my first ever) surgery (25 staples to close) and the surgeon said that in another 2 days I could have died. Spent another week in hospital for observation.
At that point I weight 50 lbs less than in March, mostly muscle loss, so weak and tired, and I was going to build new back porch. Lined up a contractor to do it, but 2 or three weeks before he could start ... that turned into 4 as his other jobs were delayed by incessant rains. Then he told me he had too much to catch up on and would understand if I looked elsewhere. It's now end of summer, I've spent most of it inside and inactive due to condition. So I line up a couple friends to work on it, and it is now almost enclosed for coming winter. Lots left to do.
So I get Physical Therapy to rebuild muscle mass and energy, which goes fine ... and then I get a post operation blood clot (another hospital ER visit) ...
When all the dust settles I check back with Dana-Farber, the liquid has stopped filling my lung cavity and things look good ... but now the blood clot is an exclusion from the study.
The good news is that Dana-Farber has had such good success with the study that they are considering fast-tracking it for approval for treatment, and the restrictions (like blood clots) would not apply.
And it's November ... where did spring/summer go?

Biopsy and surgery today
When I had last check up (every 6 months) for bladder cancer there was a new suspicious growth that needed to be biopsied. I have also been peeing blood fairly often and my urologist said it was time to bore out my prostate, so today was the day...biopsy, cauterize the bleeders and bore job.
Figuring on being in the hospital for a couple days. Hurts like hell, but I just got up and took a short walk. Using my phone to log in. Hoping for good news on the biopsy, but if not, I have been through it before. Like most cancers, the earlier it is detected the better.

I still appear to be in remission since my surgery and radiation in 2015. I did require 3 stents for my heart a couple of months ago, but I was very fortunate they caught prior to having a major heart attack as the main artery was 90% blocked.
That felt kinda stange as I'm not overweight and eat a fairly healthy diet but am falling short on the exercise side of things. (To much time on the keyboard and EvC. )
Bottom line is I feel great. There is for many of us a light at the end of the tunnel after cancer, even with a severe case as I had.
Here's praying it works out for you RAZD.

He has told you, O man, what is good ; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God.

Feel the Vibe
Tanypteryx, GDR, RAZD, all.
Bummer.
I know you, your doctors, families, are doing everything possible to help your situations and there is nothing the rest of us could do,
except,
beam positive energy thoughts at you which, truthfully, will be directed at the fleeting mental images we form based on our perceptions of you but don’t actually travel outside our heads. No, not prayer, but warm pleasant thoughts of affection.
But in order for this to be effective you must know about it. Such knowledge can have a powerful effect on the generation of positive energy thoughts in your own heads which then cause a quantum cascade of energy creating ninja proteins that skulk through your bodies doing heroic battle with the forces of evil within you. Or something.
So know that we, a lot of us here, are thinking well and warm of you and expect that armies of ninja proteins will result.

Wishing you all well
I'm not going to promise to pray for anybody because I always fail to keep it up and then I feel terrible when a person gets sick again. I'll pray when I think of it but I'm promising nothing. Wish I could.
I think good thoughts help some though. I think since Jesus told us that hatred in the heart is murder we can fairly conclude that our thoughts can have effects in the world, both good and bad thoughts.
In any case I'm still an advocate of carrot juice and greens and all that stuff nobody is willing to try. Would it kill you as it were to drink 40 oz of carrot juice every day? Some recommend 64 oz but 40 did it for one person I know of and I'm all for minimizing unpleasant tasks. It tastes good too though, and you can add stuff to improve it like garlic and onion and lemon and salt and whatever you like. Add some daily greens to the diet, similarly flavored to taste, cooked or raw as preferred. Spinach cooked with a bit of onion in chicken broth and pureed with some cream cheese is a heavenly soup. Do these things when your health gets really really bad at least. Along with all the stuff the docs do as well.

Cute. But I don't get it. I love the stuff. Especially with a green apple, celery and a beet, plus a bit of onion and lemon juice. Yum. The main problem with trying to get a lot of it every day is the chore of cleaning the juicer.

Thanks for the thoughts!
Personally, I would feel guilty/uncomfortable if God did anything to help me when there are millions of starving children and adults and facing horrific daily situations.
I love honeycrisp apples and vanilla yogurt. I have it almost every day as well as lots of vegetables every meal. I like carrot orange juice and have thought about getting some kind of juice machine.
Just got word I am being discharged today. Woohoo!

No matter how we get better, whether by chemo or other medical treatments or carrot juice or anything else, God does it. Even if I pray for healing for you and you are healed it would probably be due to whatever treatments you are taking. So you are going to have to feel guilty no matter how you get better. Maybe you could try praying for the billions of sufferers in the world yourself. I only have the energy to pray for the couple dozen people on my personal list along with the political situation which is such a mess it takes a lot of time too. I can throw in a "help the suffering billions" prayer but I think it's going to take a little more than that. Meanwhile it isn't going to help them for us to be sick is it?
I love honeycrisp apples and vanilla yogurt. I have it almost every day as well as lots of vegetables every meal. I like carrot orange juice and have thought about getting some kind of juice machine.
Hm. Certainly good to be getting a lot of veggies, and fruit too, but you have quite a sweet tooth. One mistake people make when they get a juicer is to juice huge amounts of fresh fruit and skip the veggies "for later", which is yummy but so full of sugar they put on pounds before they know it's happening. AND I might point out that I understand cancers like sugar just as much as you do. At least don't eat added sugar, like that vanilla yogurt. There's a lot of sugar in carrots too, and beets, but apparently it isn't a problem the way added sugar is, or too much fruit. I hope your biopsy comes back clean but if it doesn't please give up the sugar and if you do get a juicer go for the carrot juice.
I have a Breville juicer, a solid enough machine I got at Amazon a few years ago. I hear the LaLanne (?) is good too. These are centrifugal juicers and they jam up with fiber after about a quart and a half of juice despite the fact that they shoot the fiber out the back as they go. Of course that's a lot of juice anyway. There's also something called a masticating juicer that is quite a bit more expensive but will make a lot more juice before needing to be cleaned, and supposedly wastes a lot less too. But if you want to research it all carefully go to You Tube where you can find dozens of videos comparing machines and people demonstrating their own favorites. You should also keep in mind that people seem to sort into two types, those who like juicing and those who like to make smoothies. They are completely different ways of packing in veggies and fruits. Smoothies require a powerful blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec, which seem powerful enough to liquify two by fours and concrete blocks. You can see those demonstrated at You Tube also. But juicing has the virtue of concentrating the nutrition by eliminating the fiber, that's supposedly what makes it a powerful nutritional healer. One health guru whose name I can't remember got started when he had bladder cancer as a young man and claims he was able to cure it with thirteen glasses of carrot-apple-celery juice a day. I know this sort of anecdote makes everybody's eyebrows fly up around here but oh well.
ABE BY THE WAY I'm thinking of RAZD in all this too, since he's been going through a lot lately.

Re: Wishing you all well
So you are going to have to feel guilty no matter how you get better.
Well, if I believed I would feel a twinge, but I can't so I won't.
Maybe you could try praying for the billions of sufferers in the world yourself.
That's the crux of the issue right there. I shouldn't have to pray to get god's attention. If an entity has the power to create a planet, let alone a Universe, it should have avoided the situations that caused the kind of undeserved suffering I see around our planet.
I suspect that if god set up prayer as the preferred method of communication, the minimum requirement for success would be that the person praying is a believer. I will never be able to pretend I believe.
I don't like gated communities so I would not adjust well in heaven, which is where this would lead if it was real.
BY THE WAY I'm thinking of RAZD in all this too, since he's been going through a lot lately.
I'm thinking about him also. I have fond feeling for acquaintances and friends and I probably think about them more often if they have troubles in their lives. I have close friends who say they feel the same way about me, so it gives me a warm feeling whenever I think about them. My closest friends and I even have a special word for that feeling that we made up years ago and that only we know.

Re: Wishing you all well
There are answers to all that.
Well, check out the juicers anyway.
abe: I watched a bunch of videos at You Tube myself last night. Vitamix has some amazing new models since last I checked. It's not a juicer though, and even if I thought I might have a use for one it's way out of my price range. But IMO the demonstrations are interesting to watch.
