Percy's Sex life.
Percy's example of taking a test in Swahili is one of the best examples I have ever come across to explain evolution.
Message 67
Look at it this way. Say you took a multiple choice test written in Swahili and received a score between 0 and 100. The score doesn't say which questions were right or wrong, it's just a total score. Assuming you don't understand Swahili and that there are five answers to choose from for each question, your score will probably be around 20%.
But you're allowed to take the test again! And again and again and again! And you're given the results of each test. And when you get a higher score you'll use that test result as a model to try variations upon to get your grade even higher.
What's most amazing about this is you're increasing your grade on a test in Swahili without understanding a word of Swahili. And as you try variations around tests with good scores, you really have no idea which variation is going to prove to be the one that increases your grade. And when you finally raise your score to 100, while you'll know that all your answers are correct, you still won't have any idea what the questions or answers were.
Nature works the same way. It doesn't have any understanding of what's needed, it doesn't have any idea what the effect of any change might be, it just goes about trial-and-erroring its way through solutions, keeping those that work better than prior solutions, just as you did with the tests.
Really wish I had rit it.

Percy for a 99 % er
Message 67
Percy gives us a new analogy that I like a lot.
It'd have been 100 % if he remembered to change the @%#$%@ post title!
It might need a little more detail of how the testee goes about changing things. It isn't clear that you don't know which questions you get right or wrong.

Hm. What if the analogy wasn't about a test?
If you're with a tour group in Africa, and there are a bunch of tribesmen with spears, ready to stab anyone who does something wrong, and you have no idea what IS wrong, well, some people will just die and others will just live. You wouldn't know what happened, or even that there was a test. You were just doing what you do naturally. Like, hiccupping.

Re: Tazmanian Devil says it perfectly
I whole-heartedly second that nomination. I don't post here nearly as often as I used to, partly out of frustration and partly out of time constraints. But I still visit fairly often, and Taz is quickly becoming one of my favorite posters.

Re: Tazmanian Devil says it perfectly....NOT
This post is one of the worst posts I have ever read in this forum.
It only shows the immature, hatred, bigoted nature of taz.
It also shows how poorly he has understood everything I have explained to him, over and over and over again.
Since when do accusational posts (against the rules) become post of the month?
If taz wants be angry at all the wrong people who call themselves "christians" do, thats fine, just don't put it on me.
He should also do something about it, and stop talking so much like the "chirstians" do.
I am also dissapointed in beberry, you should have stuck up for me, or is everything we talked about just BS?
I thought you got it.

Re: Tazmanian Devil says it perfectly
While it flatters me to see one of my posts made it here, I humbly decline the nomination. I do feel regret everytime I've written stuff that aren't nice. Usually, I impose on myself a day or two suspension after, as jar puts it, diarrhea coming out of my mouth.

Disclaimer:
Occasionally, owing to the deficiency of the English language, I have used he/him/his meaning he or she/him or her/his or her in order to avoid awkwardness of style.
He, him, and his are not intended as exclusively masculine pronouns. They may refer to either sex or to both sexes!

Taz
I nominate Message 9 for obvious reason.
If it isn't obvious, then I will explain it to you. taz owes up to what he feels was wrong.

Riverrat, enough! Admin has politely pointed out that POTM is not the place to quibble about nominations. Every one in here is entitled to their opinion on which was a great post. It could be the worst post on the planet in your opinion, but it doesn't detract from another's opinion to think it was the world's greatest post.
You don't have to respect Taz, but you do have to respect the rules set forth by Percy.
This is your final warning.
