It is hereby proposed that the Free For All forum be retired. The floor is now open for comments.

I like the FFA forum and vote to keep it. Too many people hide behind the moderator when they act like boobs. The FFA forum will let the other participants "call 'em as they see 'em" without fear of reprisal for not being politically correct.

Hey Percy,
I don't think its necessary to delete the FFA completely. You might want to consider making it "registered users only" like the rest of the site. Leaving it open makes it a target for the kind of shenanigans going on currently. At least if people were required to register, it'd be a lot easier to figure out who is who...

There are two problems with the forum:
  • Some have expressed dissatisfaction with the policy permitting unregistered posters. Confusion can arise because anyone can use any unregistered ID, and there have been some pretty good attempts at aping registered users.
  • There have been regular requests for placing limits on what is permitted in discussion, even though it is unmoderated.
The first is easily fixed if that's what members want.
The second is not so easy.
My own preference is to leave Free For All alone, but for a forum that is supposedly unmoderated it draws a disproportionate amount of criticism and appeals for help, and so we will only make changes in ways that reduce the demands on moderators.

Get rid of the unregistered poster access. Too many fart and run trolls are attracted that way.

Admin,
I agree with Karl & Quetz, lose the unregistered posters, the FFA could stay, or would it's new function make the Coffee House redundant, if so, maybe it should go.

I enjoy the different tone to the discussions in the FFA, but a moderator has a right to expect that an unmoderated forum will not take up too much of their time. If it is doing so, then it should go.
Those who like the FFA must accept that it is not a place from which to appeal to the mods about bad behaviour, and that it can be a troll magnet. Enter at your own risk!

I dunno.
It seems to me that lately the unregistered people who shoot their mouths off in the FFA often go ahead and register and then begin posting without changing their style or tactics in the moderated section of the board.
Those of us who have been round the net participating in these kinds of discussions realize that EvC is of exceptionally high quality and I, for one, feel pretty protective of that.
I think the FFA would be fine if the moderators feel they can monitor and deal with people who enter EvC by that door, so to speak.
Probably the best thing to do is to is to simply not feed the trolls when they come around.

I think the FFA forum is funny.
It's supposed to be a joke, remember?
And also recall, the aping of registered users was started by a registered user (and an alleged Moderator at that!!!) attempting to "ape" an unregistered user. But I guess the joke backfired and that's what you people are all pissy about.
See the Page v. Borger thread.
And lighten up a little. You evolutionists get so damn uptight about a concept you can't prove and don't even attempt to prove. 'Cause Science doesn't prove anything.
What is being proven, however, is that you people have no sense of humor.

I call the moderstor's attention to message #86 in the Page vs Borger thread in the FFA Forum.
It's people like this that we don't need.
I am a big girl and I can handle him, but I cannot say that jdean's hounding me with his wierdo aggression is making me enjoy this board more. To my knowledge I am the only woman who is a regular poster, and this, unfortunately, seems to have made me the target of someone who finds it "entertaining" to abuse me every chance he gets.
I fully support the idea that anyone should be able to enter any conversation at any time, but his replies seem to mainly be to me and only meant to annoy and abuse me, and me alone at least for the most part. He has admitted that he is not interested in either Evolution or Creationism.
Things are seeming to escalate, so I would ask that he be watched closely.

Haha. I must agree. That post was pretty good. I invite the moderators to read it also.
Everything is gender based with you schraf isn't it? I don't pick on you because you are woman. I retaliate to your ueber left wing rhetoric. Although you do have a nast habit of man bashing.
To the admins:
If you didn't like a program on tv or the radio you would simply not watch or listen to it. The same can be applied to the FFA forums.

I believe you already requested this in private email form. Please don't be redundant.

I agree with the unregistered users part.

This I disagree with. Either delete the Free For All forum or leave it unmoderated. I think it's beneficial to have a "no holds barred" forum, where the gloves are off in these debates. If non-confrontational people would prefer a more "tastey" debate without ridicule, then they should avoid the "pvp" forum and stick to the regular forums. Otherwise Free For All will = Coffee House.
I'm disappointed that so many have pestered the Admin about the second issue.

Unmoderated but with registration necessary.
That would prevent to bedwetting mouth breathers from impersonating people and acting out.
