I AM

In my opinion, its because you see yourself as your own god. Note the name you have chosen at this forum. I could be wrong, however...just my assessment so far!

Catholic Scientist
I am not sure what you mean. If God is a jealous God, how does that force you and I to our knees?
He can be whatever he likes and that forces nothing onto me.

NoNukes
How can you know if I am God or not?
From your other post.
"and the notion good to profit from the punishment of an innocent man instead of the guilty?"
I was speaking of God having his innocent son punished/sacrificed instead of demanding the punishment of the guilty.
We all profit from punishing the guilty, not from punishing the innocent.
An incarcerated murderer, for instance, serves us all.

Give my friend.
Tell us how an immortal God can sacrifice his eternal life wit a sacrifice to himself.

Thanks Ringo
I will have to re-read the bible to see if I can find some of God's good points.
I know of many bad ones and could use a link or 2 to a few of God's non-murderous good deeds.

Re: as a Christian believer
This may go slow but i want to try to make sure with me all the way.
First, have I said anything about "an immortal God can sacrifice his eternal life wit a sacrifice to himself" other than...
quote:
Also, why do they/you force themselves to embrace barbaric human sacrifice of Jesus and the notion that it is good to profit from the punishment of an innocent man instead of the guilty?
That's a great question. Such a believe makes that God look pretty venial and stupid, doesn't it?
Fortunately I don't embrace human sacrifice or the notion that it is good to profit from punishing the innocent rather than the guilty.
Jesus was born. All things born die. Jesus was going to die regardless of anything else.
Crucifixion was not all that unique, in fact, even the Bible mentions two others crucified the same day at the same place.
So Jesus death by crucifixion wasn't all that special, and, as you mentioned, if Jesus had been god at that time it would have been nothing more than a fraud and con job anyway.
Still with me?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

For those of you who aren't getting the deeep significance of the Preacha's comments here, or why he seems so smug about it, don't worry. You just haven't studied much Magic.
Here is the most interesting overflow from the current working discussion of autotheism on the theoretical side.
On the practical side we find things like this.
If you can't process this information or use it because of the nomenclature system that is being used to protect it, well haha, that's Magic for you.
Sticks and stones, my friends; sticks and stones.

An incarcerated murderer, for instance, serves us all.
You don't profit in the way needed to address your own issues which is what Jesus sacrifice addresses.
An incarcerated murder does not address the issue with you stealing from your brother after a commandment not to do so. And your own incarceration for sinning against God would be imprisonment in a burning pit for all eternity according to those who believe that. Presumably you want to avoid your own punishment. It turns out though that most people probably cannot avoid their due because the way out is not so easy.
How can you know if I am God or not?
Perhaps you are Set the serpent?

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)
I would say here something that was heard from an ecclesiastic of the most eminent degree; ‘That the intention of the Holy Ghost is to teach us how one goes to heaven, not how the heaven goes.’ Galileo Galilei 1615.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

I am not sure what you mean. If God is a jealous God, how does that force you and I to our knees?
Well, if you read what I wrote you can see that I was replying to the question of why Yahweh would need us falling to our knees:
quote:
Yahweh is said to be Omni whatever you can think of. All powerful all knowing and on and on.
What does such a God have a need of me or you falling to our knees in adoration to assuage?
He pretty much tells us himself:
quote:
...I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God...
-Yahweh

.
He can be whatever he likes and that forces nothing onto me.
Why are you talking about being forced into worshiping?

As I said, sometimes they're the same. Even murder can be a good deed if it's your enemy that's murdered.
Of course, a murder that benefits you might be a detriment to somebody else. Reality is much more complicated than a simple list of "good deeds" and a simple list of bad ones.
