First, I am certainly sad for the people who died and were injured in Sunday's earthquake. That said, the timing of it was impeccable.
I'm currently in a production of
Into the Woods. The top of the second act starts with an earthquake. We were literally walking onto the stage to start Act II when the quake hit. If we hadn't had to hold intermission for a few patrons, it would have struck right at the moment when the quake happens in the play.
In hindsight, it was probably good that it didn't happen while we were on the stage. We were able to evacuate the theatre quickly and make sure everybody was OK and no damage to the building. We got everybody back in and started the second act with no interruptions. When we got to the point in the play where the quake strikes, everybody laughed, though one child in the audience got a little scared thinking that it was another quake.
Anybody else have nature look down on you and decide to have an impeccably timed act trigger at the dramatically appropriate moment?
