When I was traveling last week I received information that informed me that the world is going to end on May 21. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this particular religious ridiculousness.
The pamphlets I received were from Family Radio - Christian music, Hymns, bible teaching, podcasts. Header says
quote: Here is the gist of their argument.
quote: Source What is thought of Family Radio and Harold Camping by mainstream christians? But more importantly, is the world going to end May 21? Facts don\'t lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

is the world going to end May 21? No. Their entire premise is based on the statement that, "Years ago we learned from the Bible that the flood occurred in the year 4990 B.C." The commonly accepted date for the flood is ca. 4350 years ago, so all of their numbers are wrong from the start. And the flood is a local tribal myth anyway. (Yawn.) Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Hi Coyote,
The commonly accepted date for the flood is ca. 4350 years ago...
Obviously, anyone who believes that is not a REAL Christian... But anyway, the more interesting thing is, what are they going to do when they wake up on 22 May? It's easy to deny science, you just homeschool your children, but how are you going to deny that the world still exists?

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Hi jar,
Last I heard his little non-profit held over a hundred million dollars worth of assets. Aren't the good christians believers supposed to give away all their worldly assets prior to rapture? Or is this another "do as I say for you, not do as I do for me" christian? Couldn't they at least advance that to Jan 23? That way, I wouldn't have to clean the snow off my driveway. Jesus was a liberal hippie

I hate the idea of having to wait around another 2600+ years to be rid of the christians. I'll root for May 21. Another thought occurs to me. Maybe Camping is right and his own personal world will end on May 21? Better yet, on May 22 when he dies from embarrassment.

if you wake up on the 22nd then that means you missed the rapture and were left behind? i don't really know, that whole rapture stuff seems bogus to me anyway, how can bible literalists support something that is not even in the bible. I'll probably never understand protestant thinking.

The only problem is that most of the fervent So called Christians would be the one's left since they don't even follow their own Patriarch's (Jesus) teaching. The Rapture is a quite recent and very American concept. It comes from Increase and Cotton Mather during the 1700's. So doctrinal evidence is sparse or non-existent.

Hi Theodoric,
It comes from Increase and Cotton Mather during the 1700's. Ah, so it comes from a time when drinking homemade alcohol and smoking marijuana were both common.
