Re: Examples
not that cut and dry on the netscape board each individual can filter posters out with an {Ignore Author} button, in effect monitoring their own board for what they can see on it. some topic go off and never return. the level of science there is lower than here - possibly a result of the topic drift they also joke around and have fun. I don't need two boards operating the same way.

Re: Examples
I wasn't proposing they operate the same way...they don't have to be polar opposites either though.

Re: ample
The issue is probably with dealing with the larger VOLUME of posts that since Crashfrog has been posting (that) the admins have probably seen. Sharfinator may have (a point) about wanting to timely reply but I dont think that prior approval will seriously degrade the quality of work here. And not only are the open "forums" (take my very early and many pre EvC posts on Darwin Chat) are NOT the same. Not only might mor chating go on AND the quality is lower I HAVE NEVER SEEN POINTS understood THERE for instance as I have seen and read them comprehended here. My guess is that Buzzsaw will be around but Sharf may be more concerned that once or if the approval occurs Buzz simply choses to NOT LONGER post in the newly opened place but rather somewhere else. That is functionality that S looses this way. And by the way there is not a problem with larger number of posts by newer(sic) posters if the admins have the space provided they/me/you/I can be CHANNELED by the admins should they find it necessary else we might as well just be only exchaning phone numbers.

Bump + proposal for changes
I have proposed to Percy that all "Post New Topic" buttons link to a page with information and links like the below rough draft. The links do work - They go to the start topic pages of the 5 forums. Adminnemooseus ----- To start a topic at most Evcforum.net forums, one must submit the topic to a review process. The exception forums are: Welcome, Visitors! (This forum is the only one open to topics and messages by the unregistered. This forum is intended for short introductory topics, not for major debate)
START "NEW WELCOME VISITORS!" TOPIC Short Subjects (This forum is intended for short term , disposable topics. Topics are subject to deletion after their short term purpose is completed.)
START NEW "SHORT SUBJECTS" TOPIC Practice Makes Perfect (This forum is intended as a testing area. Might you wish to use an existing topic, rather than start a new one?)
START NEW "PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" TOPIC Suggestions and Questions (This forum is intended for suggestions to and questions about forum operations)
START NEW "SUGGESTIONS AND QUESTIONS" TOPIC ---------- Topics for all other forums must be run through the topic review process. Please submit them to the "Proposed New Topics" forum. Proposed New Topics
START NEW "PROPOSED NEW TOPICS" TOPIC

I know that you are trying to be helpful, but don't make it anymore complicated than it already is! The Laminator

Starting New Topics | branching to side topics
This looks good. The one question I have is still regarding off-topic branches from current topic threads. I think a good place for them would be the short subjects - side topics would either be short (per category definitions) or grow to a new thread and admin could decide to move it.

Minor Changes to Starting New Topics
Everyone: Moose and Sylas have been working hard kicking around some ideas about how best to handle new topics. I've been a little too busy to contribute, but now I have a little time (very little), so I'm changing just a few things. These might change again as other admins might not agree, but the changes should be minor:
- Members can now initiate threads in the [forum=-14], [forum=-15], [forum=-22], [forum=-16] and [forum=-17] forums without first posting in the [forum=-25] forum.
- When you attempt to begin a thread in a forum which requires preapproval, you'll receive a message telling you to post it to the [forum=-25] forum, and it will include a link.
PS - Moose, when I was much busier I thought I noticed a proposed webpage from you about the New Topic procedures, and now I can't find it.

Re: Minor Changes to Starting New Topics
We need better topic drift control, at the "Private Admin Forum". I've posted a "Most Recent Version" there. Adminnemooseus ps to all: See previous message also WHERE TO GO TO START A NEW TOPIC (For other than "Welcome, Visitors!", "Suggestions and Questions", "Practice Makes Perfect", and "Short Subjects") Comments on moderation procedures? - Go to
Change in Moderation?or
too fast closure of threads

sorry mins
Sorry, NED I havent been "Down" here in a long while. I guess I should try to learn just exactly what the changes ARE. I had read S's post which you wanted me not to start talking in, not as a suggestion or question but rather as a statement. I guess maybe it was becuase The "Welcome, Visitors!", "Practice Makes Perfect", "Short Subjects", and "Suggestions and Questions" forums method is unchanged. REMAINED unchanged. Sorry.
