At the risk of dragging this topic somewhere it shouldn't be going, I bring up the situation of old earth creationist Phillip Johnson. As I understand it, Johnson accepts the 4.5 billion year Earth, and also accepts the fossil record as being the record of life of the Earths past. As such, he (IMO) accepts the fact of evolution - That the nature of life on Earth has changed down through time. He just does not accept the "theory of evolution" relationships of this change though time. Instead he attributes the change to being one of many special creations by God.In other words, Johnson accepts the "dots", but he doesn't accept "connecting the dots".Moose

If everyone was at the point of understanding the age of the earth and the evolution of life on it there would be much less fuss.If someone wants to believe in a "special creation" so fine grained as to be one for each individual organism then I don't think there is much room to argue. If he want to postulate magic at each birth then I don't think anyone can do much to disprove it (or prove it).If he wants it at another level he's going to get tied in knots trying to figure out where the level is.Let's deal with one thing at a time.

I have hoped for this structure since starting in this debate 30+ years ago.If part of the welcome thread could be a four column table of the baseline "facts" discussed and a link to the updatable status of each position (do not accept, neutral, accept) so that people (newcomers and old timers alike) could be referred to the table to see the status of the ideas as seen by the individuals in this forum then the information would be in a known place. This would be so helpful in reducing the repetition and eliminating purely emotional "closing" statements and/or never ending arguments.Looking forward,
