Off topic, but 0.50 caliber slugs dating back to around the mid 1800's and obsidian arrowheads have been found embedded in the shells of aligator turtles found in the southeast. The grow about 1 lb per year, and some are over 200 lbs (90 kilos for our enlightened metric users).
As far as being the best, we are still at the mercy of microorganisms. Our lives can be lengthened or shortened by their influence, not to mention that just the bacteria on and in my body outnumber humans by many orders of magnitude. In fact, the outnumber my human cells by a ratio of at least 1:100. So much for being the best.
